I'm going to buy my first Scooby shortly. I'll have about £16k to spend and am torn between the safe choice ofa late letter UK model or an older STi.
What kind of STi could I get for the money and what are the opinions of those gathered here?
I'm intending on doing track days whichever car I chose if that has any bearing on the advice.

Steve for 16K the world is your Oyster in Scoobies You can easily buy a nice STI4 4 door or even a Type R 2 Door. If you look around there are even STI 5's for around 16K and this also included 2 Doors.
At the moment its a buyers market, pick up a copy of Top Marques and have a look as there are loads of UK and STI's available. Just remember to buy an STI with Service History as there are so many Stolen / Damaged or clocked.

Be very weary of mileage - it is easy to clock - being a digital dash
So check everything very carefully is my advice
Also make sure the oil on changes is at least 10w-40w and nothing less

Thanks for all the pointers as to where to buy cars, offering me your cars etc.
I won't actually be looking to buy until March and after I sell my current Puma (98S if anyone wants it).
I was wondering what peolpe recommend for £16k - a UK or STi model.
Cheers

maybe a good idea to check out insurance quotes first - it might make the decision process , um, less complicated ;-)
I had some folks interested in my sti 5 when for sale recently - until they tried getting a sensible quote - ho hum.
if insurance isn't a problem then you will get a nice sti 4 for 16k - if planning to go on track then save some cash back for 'consumables' too !
good luck,
cheers,
Paul W
