Default HOW QUICK???

Evening all just wondering what kind of power a classic or STI would need to be putting out to keep with a Honda CBR 600 just a debate in work me and a friend who owns a CBR 600 are having and before some of you say yes I know the bike is quicker but as the post says what kind of power would you need to keep with the bike.

Agree 450-500bhp+

A Subaru with 500 bhp will do a 1/4 mile in the low 11's or so which is about the same as a modern 600 cc sportsbike.

I've drove a lot of fast cars and having leapt aboard my mates Fireblade the other week which is pushing 140bhp+ i feckin' shat meself, it would despatch a Scoob in a straight line at least without breaking a sweat.

Wierd thing is that some of the cars on here are actually running 450-500bhp. So in that case your mate would be wrong I'd love to drive a 500bhp scooby to see what it's like.

Believe it or not!!!! Std , I went to a bike track night at Cadwell Park recently and timed a few going round on the track. I have to say a large proportion are slower to the tune of 5-10 sec over a full ciruit lap.

Work out the power to weight ratios. That will give you straight line comparisons.

The key difference between Imprezas and bikes in the real world and/or on track is that you have to be a good rider to get the most out of a powerful bike, the impreza is far more forgiving to it's mediocre driver... I should know

Due to 4 wheel drive and the grip of 4 wheels you should be able to corner faster in a scoob so round a track power to weight is not as big a difference as it would be in a straight line.

On a real road the bike would edge it due to suicidal over-taking moves, the riders take for granted...

IMHO

I had a go against my brother when he was on his CBR 600 RR (about 3 weeks ago)

From a standing start and up to about 30 I was quicker, but then he just dissappeared (only up to about 50 before we had to stop for lights).

On country roads there is also not much in it, but when the roads get smooth and wide he is gone.

Brilliant fun these erm...'comparisions'

And no - I don't do these things regularlly, just curious.

If you watch video footage of the Nurburgring, a Scoob will easily catch up with and pass a bike through the twisty sections. On the straights and for initial acceleration, the bike definitely has the advantage, but not by as much as you might think. TBH, a lot will have to do with how good both drivers are in their choosen weapon.

A while back I did a test with my mates varadero 1000cc-twin (I know its not a sports bike, but its still a very quick bike) and my car which had approx 380bhp.

The test was a straight drag race from standing start to a 1/4 mile finish line.

Off the line I had the jump, with him losing traction and wheeling a bit, then he would shoot past me as I'm changing gear, him being able to do nearly 55mph in first. From that point I would slowly catch him up as we head towards the 1/4 mile point.

It was very close usually within a bikes length. He won 2 out of the 3 races we had.

I would say a 500bhp impreza would beat a 600cc bike, not by much though.

Varadero aren’t a quick bike they have under 100bhp and weigh about 220kg. Think the 1/4 mile is over 13.5s. I would have thought a 380bhp Scooby would have had it.
If you failed against a Varadero with 380bhp never try against a modern sports bike
What’s the power to weight of a 500bhp classic vs. new CBR600

The new Varadero which weighs more than the older versions, does 0-60 in 4secs

The CBR600rr does it in 3.45 secs 0-60.

So not alot of difference.

A lardy Goldwing does a 1/4 mile in 13.2secs .

So, I think a Varadero is a little bit quicker.

This was a real test and just shows that you need a fair amount of power to keep up with big cc bikes or sport bikes

Well if a Varadero is that quick enough said
Sports bikes rule (excluding wimps old farts, traffic and rain )

Is a spec C heavier than a classic? If so you have no chance.

Doubt that anyone here would question the straight line speed of a sports bike on smooth tarmac with a rider that is as crazy as a loon. Back in the real world though there really is not much in it.

I have a Gixer 6 and an UK Turbo 2000 (standard), doing the same trip from near Lincoln to Nuneaton generally takes less time in my car !!

When I'm on my bike I seem to be constantly overtaking and sit at slightly higher speeds on dual carriageways, but in my car I barely hammer it but still take less time

If a 380bhp Scooby can't do the 1/4 in under 13.5sec the driver should be ashamed. With that power low 12s -high 11s should be in reach depending on weight.
