It's a black art . Try and get the clutch fed in by the time the turbo kicks in, otherwise cooking/smell and all hell will break loose.

I used to rev it to 4k - then feed it in quickly - not dump it. 30k later it had outlsted the engine

Had it replaced, but looked like it had another 10k in it.......

That gives adequate times that way - no slip, no nasty smells..........

So this is what I envisage.
I'm sitting on the line, maintaining the revs at 3.5 - 4K. Whilst being in 1st with clutch down.

The flag drops and I "quickly" feed out the clutch?

I remember now, when I brought the car the guy suggested to not take it to the max in 1st, get it in 2nd quite quickly and get on with it then. Or is that being just too kind to the car?

I'm going to be doing a driving test day in my STi (1/4 mile sprint and slalom etc.) and wondered if any of you competition chaps or traffic light demons could describe a clutch friendly method for launching the scoob.

Its my road car so I'm not really bothered about shaving 1/10ths off my time and having a stinking/smoking clutch.

Any suggestions?

Just don't sidestep it! If you bring it up to 3 - 3.5K then feed in the clutch while pushing in the throttle, you'll get away pretty sharpish ...

A bit harsher than most..
But holding 5000 enough for revs to become stable and let clutch up quickly. Not quite sidestepping....but often enough to get a little bit of wheelspin.

Guarenteed to be on boost, and not bog down.

Used for hillclimb starts.
Very heavy on the clutch though. Finished an AP sprung paddle in under 5000 miles

U`v got the idea m8, sit her at 4k, take 2 the bite an let in a bit (just off bite).
On the light lego an it`ll steam on, 1 thing to watch though depending on model is your revs. In a 93 WRX i`m in 3rd in <3 secs
If u don`t time it right an go 2 far up the band in 1st an 2nd (ie 7K) your rev restricter kicks in an spoilz the phun.....
