Default Do 06 Sti's have "AYC" ??

Hello folks,

Perhaps you can settle some pub chat.

I seem to recall it being mentioned that 06 UK STi's and after have Anti Yaw Control. Is that true ? If so, how does it differ from this Evo's system, and why wasn't it necessary to reduce the Impreza's service intervals as a result ?

cheers for any thoughts,

AndytJ

Hawkeyes have DCCD-A with Yaw Sensors I believe.....

Sure someone here will confirm this, however, Imprezas do not come with Active Yaw Control.

DCCD-A is an active center diff, altering the amount of lock in the center diff.

Mitisbishi's AYC is an active rear diff, altering the torque given to the left or right rear wheel. Evo 4,5,6.
Evo 7 onwards also got an active center diff ACD.

Cheers. What does that mean in practical terms ? As I recall it (not necessarily correctly !), AYC meant that the Evo could have power to all of it's wheels, the one that had the most traction, or any combination of these. Is that correct, and what is the difference in those terms with the DCCD-A ?

The simplest answer is that evo's could control the power across axles, subaru's control power between axles.
The yaw sensors just meant that the DCCD-A became more efficient because it had more information on what the car was doing.

Cheers Tony. I'm almost there. But Evos can control power both across the axles and between the axles, right ?

No, only between the front and rear and across the rear axle. They get a mechanical front LSD which would act passively and not actively.

Excellent. Many thanks.

Lastly, does my 01 WRX have a limited slip diff, just out of curiosity ?

the subaru equivalent is vdc, it can reduce engine power and apply brakes or change the gear or change the amount of power given to front or back wheels to try and keep you on the road when you go in to a slide/spin

VDC is short for Vehicle Dynamic Control. Basically it is the name Subaru has chosen to give ESP. This is a completely different system and is found on MY08 cars only.

No you don't have one, you have two!!!

The center diff is a viscous type, and so is the rear. These work passively to alter the torque split within certain limits. The front is a normal open diff.

Don't you have three? Thought the STI had one at the front between the axles as well?
