They are loud, but not deafening or anything. Your best bet if possible is to attend a Scooby meeting and then you should be able to experience one for yourself, as what's very loud to one person isn't too bad to another.
Another option might be a PPP backbox if you have a newage. These are louder than a standard one and sound nice, but are still a lot quieter than a Vortex.

If it's just the backbox, it might be alright. Depends on what your definition of loud is.
Best bet is to get a bung too, for when the nipper is in. Whip is out when you want to try and get an ASBO. Best of both worlds....

I find all classic exhausts louder than newage ones (same make)
I had a Vortex on my newage STI and it is fairly loud in the cabin but it depends how you drive. It generally sends kids to sleep.
The ninja is quieter than the Vortex but still sounds good.
Best advice is as above........listen to one in person or risks loseing some cash.

As above regarding listening advice.
H&S original scooby design if you're concerned about volume, lovely sound. Not too intrusive on the inside, won't annoy anyone on the outside.

As said above, loudness is dependent on the person and you're best to listen in person.
Before I bought a Vortex backbox I was told it was very loud and might need a bung Yet I didn't find it loud at all. It's got a nice sound outside, but cabin noise imo is was minimal.
When I added the centre section, it did make it louder, and from the back, passengers may find it annoying, but tbh it wasn't too bad.
