Question is, if you had £8500 would you spend it on a 6 year old Impreza that's drinks fuel and is about to be hammered by the tax man? I bought my old MY05 STI for £21500 new at the start of '06. Two and a bit years on it is probably now worth £12000 on a good day. Do you think that another 3 1/2 years of wear and tear really translates to only £3500? I'm not going to say what I think it's worth because I'll just get a load of grief, but you might find you're going to have to cut that price if you want a quickish sale. Sorry.

Why has your car done 150k or something?

took 20 seconds on pistonheads to find 30 cars the same as yours nearly all sitting at £16k.

I think the OP has priced his car just right.

I think most people on here would say yes. For performance you are getting that is an absolute bargain. That is the one advantage to the current tax/fuel situation - if you are looking to get into Subaru ownership for the first time then the up-front buying costs of a second-hand car have come down significantly, often enough to offset the other costs for a good period of time.

Not so good for those of us who first bought last September

Do I regret it though - absolutely not!

You're quite right, and you watch all of those cars stay advertised on Pistonheads until the asking prices are reduced.

We're talking about a 6 year old car here. Regardless of what the official price list says these cars were available for £22k ish from UK dealers for ages. If this car sells for £8.5k then that means it has maintained nearly 40% of it's value after 6 years. That's Porsche Boxster-like residuals.

There are enough of you telling this guy that £8.5k is about right. Almost all of you either own or have a soft spot for Imprezas. For everyone else this car is not worth more than £6k. Maybe £6.5k as it has the desirable PPP. Personally I would rather set a realistic value and get the car sold rather than spend months waiting for someone with more money than sense to materialise in amongst the hoards of timewasters. Bet he doesn't get £8.5k.

I reckon it's a realistic price. There are alot of high mileage MY02 STIs without PPP advertised for about £8k on autotrader, this one is low mileage and with PPP!
Guess it depends if you want a quick sale at the end of the day.

It sold for £7100. So I wasn't that far out with my £6500. An awful lot closer than £8500.

Agree that £8.5k is unlikley to result in a quick sale. Have just had no interest in shifting a similarly aged WRX with 1 owner from new, various good points in its favour for ~£5k. There are a couple of 2002 WRX wagons advertised near me at less than £3k. Credit crunch, high fuel prices etc mean that there aren't many people looking to buy second hand performance cars, so unless the price is ridiculously cheap you might find it hard to shift quickly.

That said, good luck anyway!

PS - two other things. The one on ebay at £7100 was an STi. That gives you an idea of what they're fetching. Secondly, there's several bugeye WRXs (not STi) near me on autotrader at over £7k. And I got no sniff at £2k less than that. So somehow I doubt that the £7.5k ones are selling.

The one on ebay says it's an STi. 19k extra miles and PPP granted, but I guarantee you that you won't get over £7k for a WRX easily at the moment!

But this one has done a lot fewer miles. And has PPP.

Don't jump on blueblaster just yet, I reckon he's got a good point.

It's getting harder to get finance now, and with road tax increasing, fuel prices increasing, people having less money due to other inflation etc, it's not going to be easy to sell a car for a good price, especially not a money pit like an impreza.

I reckon 7k is a good price (for the seller), it's six years old after all. Hades post is telling of the state of the market, IMO. Not a good time to sell.

In a word - yes. I'd guess 5-6 year old scoobs have probably dropped getting on for £2k since the start of the year.
