Thumbs up STi Tax hope I've got this right!?

Just been checking the amount of car tax I'm going to have to pay (If the STi doesn't sell first) & hope I've come up with a small money saving move.
The car is a 55 reg STi btw.
I normally always renew for the full 12 months so the current tax disc runs out on 30/9/08. It will cost £210 to renew for 12 months but if I only renew for six @ £115.50 then it will be due again on 31/3/09 and that's one day before the whopping great last budget increases come in so £210 at this point for a full 12 months.
If it's correct then anyone with a renewal in September 08 (& possibly July & August) should consider renewing for 6 months only???

Apologies if this is sial!
Steve

I think you are spot-on with what you are planning to do - there is a definitive cut-off date.

In fact - it would be worth some people cashing-in their Tax Disc and renewing straight away to save paying the £400 Rate!

Mine is due at the end of the month. Was going to put 12 months on then cash in end of March (or end of Feb if too risky).
Can you cash in and buy new there and then in a post office?
I'd like to do this anyway as paying in June or Dec is inconvenient!

Hi, looking on The cost of vehicle tax for cars, motorcycles, light goods vehicles and trade licences : Directgov - Motoring

It states the £400 12 month car tax is only on cars reg on or after 23/03/06, so 55 reg should not be affected...

Correct me if I am wrong...:-)

I've posted something like this a couple of months ago, but a friend who has just bought a new 335ci said his tax was calculated pro-rata, I hope he's wrong

I don't think it can be pro-rata or people would be being affected by it since this April.
I've just picked up a my05 WRX and the TAX is due the end of the month, I might just get 6 months which takes me up to December. Then get 12 months. Hadn't even given it a thought until I saw this thread.

Thanks, might be able to take advantage of that.

Lycos site is quite user friendly for calculating the duty.

Although apparently my bro in-laws Merc ML270 on a Y plate is £185, whereas wifies MX5 on a 51 plate is going to be £300

Basically, the rule o fthumb is, if you car is registered after 2001, and has more than 8 BHP, or runs on something other than recycled lentil bake, then you need to give over your first born child as collateral for your VED. If you don;t have any children, then you have to hand over the deeds to your house, and agree to a tattoo of Gordon Brown phisiogamy on your scotum.

If you want a years tax you also have to give Margeret Beckett one up the wrong'un.

I know how you feel, see my post above. Wifies 1.8 MX5 is going to cost a whopping £115 more a year than a 4x4 M class Merc, you couldn't make it up.
