Default MOT Question

A quick question for you.

My MOT is due in October.

If I was to take it to an MOT station next week and it failed, would I still be able to drive around legally as the car has a current MOT certificate until October?

Or will the new computerised system, over ride the current certificate and show my car as an MOT failure (thus negating insurance etc)?

I was toying with the idea of checking the car out emissions wise to see if things needed sorting prior to October when it's dark, wet and cold and I'm not in the mood to get under the car

Cheers

It's an MY95 (M reg).

I posotive it won't fail mechanically, just the dreaded emissions. Full decat and induction kit (possibly soon to get stored in the garage and standard air box refitted).

I've heard of a few in similar spec that have passed MOT's, and I'm aware of the MOT regs regarding import cars of this era so I'm fairly certain it would pass.

It will be my first MOT with this car (although she has had two prior MOT's and passed), I guess it's down to the knowledge of the MOT station as well.

At the end of the day, the car is a runabout so it's not the end of the world if it's off the road for a few days.

Get friendly with your local MOT tester, a check will take a couple of minutes.... worth a drink !

From the conversation I had with the guys I use for the other cars MOT, they said to take it in on the Saturday where the owner does tests that may need a little tweaking to get cars through. Nothing illegal, just willing to spend a little more time to get the emissions down rather than the instant pass/fail scenario. It helps that it's close to work (lots of potential customers) and he knows that I'll be recommending him to others to go there.

At least now I know that my original MOT certificate stands.
