Default Want to buy a Subaru: How much?

Hello

After giving up on buying a Honda Type R (I couldn't cope with thrashing it to make it go fast) and not really getting on with the far-to-expensive new Subaru WRX STI, I'm looking to buy a second hand WRX STI (old shape) that is a year or two old.

Prices seem to vary wildly, but I would expect to pay £12K for something like this: Auto Trader UK - SUBARU IMPREZA 2.0 WRX STi 4dr Saloon that is on there for £14,900.

Any ideas on price?

Thanks.

Steve

my personal advice is spend as much as you can on the best you can afford (within reason ), its best to look on a site like this for something you want , as most are going to be well looked examples ..

what type R did you have mate , i recently had a DC2 integra type R

Lookin at your post count you obviously know your stuff about imprezas

No ... I had a Japanese imported Impreza WRX STI Type R 9 years ago, then bought a Supra and have had that ever since. The Supra is just about sold if I can bear to part with it and looking to get something else.

Abbot: I test drove (a couple of times) the new Civic Type R. Great looking car, nice toys, just really, really slow unless you keep it at 8500 revs the whole time. And I'm way too old for doing that all the time.

My post count is more related to Non-Scooby-Related and the bizarreness that goes on in there

I didn't really see anything in the For Sale section here, I'll check again.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve
Yeah matey hondas have a SEVERE lack of torque , and need to be held high at all times .. too much effort not enough power ..

best of luck on your search ..

HAving a more detailed look around, they are actually higher than I expect. People on Pistonheads seem to want £16K+ which is too high in my opinion.

My 55 reg blob has ppp & springs & a few other goodies, only 10k miles & can be had for £13995, it seems to be the cheapest on pistonheads at that age regardless of mileage & ppp!
£12k might get a bog standard 54/05 STi with 30-40k miles?
Think a lot are having a knee-jerk reaction to the fuel/tax increases but then maybe if they're like me decide to keep rather than give a belting car away for silly money.

Sounds like you need a big dislpacement V8 then

Ever considered looking at a Corvette?

350bhp/370lb ft stock.

Will make over 90% of it's torque at only 1500rpm

some bargains on there

With regards age I don't think it matters the year it's more the shape and mileage that counts. ... .ie 05 Hawkeye will sell for more than 05 Blob Eye etc etc

If it was my money (which at one point it was) I'd spend the bit extra and get the hawkeye or get an earlier blob with low miles and save some cash!

my choice !!

Subaru : Subaru Impreza STI D-spec

This has upset me a lot that is just far far far too much fkin car for the money !!!!

Have you seen this classic - STi v5 Type R - probably the best classic shape you can get and in the best colour. Looks absolutely gorgeous. Nice mods too.

Subaru : Impreza Type-r version 5

note - nothing to do with me.

Unfortunately it is too old. The reason I'm swapping the Supra is the company I work for insists on less than 5 years old and less than 120,000 miles.

For £12k even in the current buyers market you will not get a low mileage 06 STI. That one you are looking at is priced lower than most 06 cars as it is a blobeye. They changed to hawkeyes in 06 so that must be one of the last. Hawkeyes with 6000 miles on will set you back around £16k.

Considering they were £28k new that's not a bad saving! Perhaps you want to look at WRXs on your budget?
