Default PRIVATE PLATE Q

I have currently got my private plate on a car which is out of mot and SORN no insurance ( the car is just a spare)

Does anyone know what I must do to swap it onto Subaru, get new plates made up and then get new plates made up for old car (origional reg).

To put them onto Subaru do I need to pay a transfer fee at dvla then take tax/mot/insurance with me and in return they give a certificate so I can have plates made up?????

It seems a right mission!

You will have to go to the nearest DVLA local office with the paperwork and see what they say. take both V5's, newest mot's and tax discs. They may do it, or they may want you to take the donor car to them to check it's ID. Just tell them that it will not be going back on the road & is being scrapped

To transfer plates, the car there coming off needs to be T & T.

The car does not need to be taxed.

A couple of months ago I transfered a plate from a sorned car. I then put the plate on retension after the SORN had been completed, only did this because I was waiting to have a private plate taken off the scooby and I needed to get rid of the old car, rather than direct transfer. The DVLA were fine about it, the car did have a valid MOT but I can't remeber the exact details about what would happen if it had run out. Call them - use the number on their website.

If you like I will ask them myself as I'm going to the Peterborough office on Wednesday to get a private plate on my wife's car for her birthday. The DVLA do have the right to inspect any car before transfers can be made.

yes if u could ask them for me buddy that would be great! Its on my old car which has no mot and declared sorn with no insurance. Im going to keep that car as a spare though so its origional reg would need to go on! Then either put the plate straight onto scooby or on retention. Could you get details on both mate? Price for retention and for straight swap onto scooby

You can print transfer form and guidance off the DVLA website. Fill it in then take to your nearest licencing office with £80.

I don't think it's possible to transfer a Q-plate is it?
A Q-plate is not a private plate as such, following quote taken from Carscams.
Q Plate
Document Actions Q Plate is a vehicle registration mark that starts with a 'Q', indicating that the vehicle was either not originally registered in the UK and proof of age was unavailable at registration; or that it is a vehicle that has been built using a significant proportion of used parts. Kit cars usually have a Q registration. Q plates can be used to disguise stolen or 'rung' vehicles, and when it comes to a bike check, you should be especially cautious of motorcycles which bear a Q plate.
I'm pretty sure that they are doing away with Q-plates for reasons above...

Right.

Talking to the staff at the DVLA in Peterborough yesterday...

If..

You SORNed the car straight after the TAX ran out and it has been less than a year then you should be able to transfer.

But...

If there was a 'delay' between the tax running out and the SORN starting and it has been sorned for less than a year then they may well inspect it (at your house).

However...

If it has been more than a year they will most likely not let you do anything unless it has been re-taxed - which will mean a new MOT.

You need to phone them directly and discuss your exact details.

I don't advise going down there just to ask this question, yesterday I was lucky and there was only 10 people in front of me (20 ish mins) I went there earlier this year and I waited over an 1 hour 15 mins.

Not sure where the Q plate bit started from above

I think you will be alright, as what you say about the tax still being in date if you hadn't sorned it, means it must be less than a year...
