I fitted a MOMO gearknob recently.
I didn't use the white plastic bit. I put the rubber gaitor straight onto the metal shaft (it was the 2nd thinnest one if I remember correctly.)
I then put the new gear **** in place and tightened up the grub screws supplied.
This changes the gear **** fitting from "screw on" to "slide on and secure with grub screws".
Hope this helps

MY00, fitted a Sparco ****, gaiter did NOT stay up, but didn't **** around with cutting/gluing/buying GG parts etc - get a roll of black insulating tape and wrap it around the gear lever shaft about 8mm below the bottom of the new ****. Needs a bit of trial and error to get the thickness right so the gaiter will just pull back over it and stay up but it isn't a bodge, it works.
Added benefit is that you don't hack the original **** around by cutting off the collar so if you want to refit it when you sell the car, no problem.

The later cars have a leather gaiter which doesn't stay up by itself. AFAIK you either need to hacksaw and superglue the one of the original 'Ann Summers' gearknob, or buy a bit of plastic for 15 quid from Graham Goode.

I've just replaced my **** (oo-err) with a Momo race air/leather (lovely x-mas present from the missus), and on my MY00 GT the gaitor stands up by itself, no need for that plastich piece.

Nice one Dave !
When I fitted my Momo gear **** (MY00), I used a small piece of self-adhesive velcro. Bit fiddly, but you can attach one side to the gear stick and put the other half around the neck of the gaiter - stays up with no problems!!

Whilst on the subject, does anyone know what the part no. of the MY99/00 leather gearstick gaiter is? Asking the local dealer proved to be a complete waste of time.

thanks for all the information on gear ***** - our gator does not stay up on it's own (already tried that)
we will try out some of the suggestions given.
thanks!!

nice one Dave T-S - used the tape trick for my MOMO and the rubber (alli)gator.
what i want to know is though - for all of you that also own the rather saucy-looking aluminium MOMO **** - should the pointy part of the **** curve towards you or away from you toward the dashboard when correctly fitted? (ie like the standard leather Nardi one does.)
mine was fitted to curve back towards me and it feels nice in the hand (ooh dear, this getting a little leslie phillips) - espcecially when you're choking the chicken into 5th. But something tells me that said pointy part of **** should curve towards the dash...
i think we should be told.
also to aluminium MOMO owners, do hard-of-thinking passengers ever ask you "but how do you know what gear you're in?" and "where's reverse?"
answers on a postcard please...

true, although it's usually my wife. and i'll tell you what really gets my goat is how german cars and japanese cars insist on putting indicators and wipers etc on opposing stalks.
in an automotively schizophrenic east/west household like ours, i am constantly turning on the wipers when i want to make a turn and then indicating when the heavens open.
anyway, back to the point - which way should your polished metal **** point? to the dash or back to you?
come on boys - someone must know! hey, scoobygirls, what do you think?
