S202
Just spotted this on pistonheads, states no model report ideal for track, does this mean that without the model report it can never go on the road, as I know these cars are rare and would be a waste if it cannot be used

I think that is the case no model report so your never going to get it road legal.
Makes you consider if like on NASIOC it's a good project car... buy a blown type r or ra and swap everything over, engine and running gear, dashboard etc
that would make things interesting

A couple of years or so back they could be fiddled through with a bit of cunning and a ' fiver to the VOSA guy doing the test.'
[ I know, I know, these guys are of the highest integrity and would not accept the fiver if you offered it - however .........
]
That loophole has closed and it is now rather more strict.
Without a model report I would not wish to buy the car and hope to get it registered.
It will be a track car only forever, in my opinion
Unless you can buy an ID off a legitimately written off car and swap ID's.

But hasn't that chap who posts on here brought in new STI RAs and not used a model report?
Would the ID from an STI RA do? Theres a model report for version 7 STI RA. Could you not take the S202 stuff of. get it through as an STI RA and then put the S202 stuff back on?
Or just leave it in the garage and polish it for 4 years. Least it keeps the miles off

Maybe he had one of the 'fiver ' guys
The system now is that the original Japanese de-reg document must be seen by VOSA before an SVA test can be booked. Once they have seen one that does not have an extant model report, it is too late to backtrack as their system 'remembers' the rogue car.
SO, if the seller has tried and been knocked back by VOSA, then they know that the car is out there and will be looking for it to come back in a different direction, if you see what I mean.
Polish it forever, as the ten year rule is being abolished in April 2009 and ALL cars will need SVA from then on.
The model report is specific to model number, so the 'Applied model code ' on the chassis plate is what they look for and if that does not line up with a model report - out it goes again.
I have heard of people getting new chassis plates made up, by those people that you see occasionally in Exchange and Mart, [ like the 'speedo correction specialists '] that have the correct model number added in place of the wrong one.
Risky, but that is the car reg game. They also check the body stamped chassis number behind the brake master cylinder, to ensure that the body and chassis plate are one and the same.
Believe me, they have seen it all before and probably have seen more moves than you can think of.
I had all sorts of trouble recently, because not only did the model report picture the type of cat I needed for the test, but gave the exact dimensions of the cat too. You go to Kwikfit and measure their Subaru cats - no two will be the same size because of; ' production tolerances ' BUT the model report calls for an exact size - to be acceptable. It took six weeks to get one the right size.............
The reason the report has called for an exact size, is because the model report author has the one and only cat of that exact size and he fits it to all cars when presenting for the test. The rest of us poor buggers have to try to rent it off him for our tests. Guess how much the rent would be.??
In conclusion, if that specific car is known to the DVLA / VOSA to be without a valid model report, the only way to get it through would be to create a model report and for such a low volume car that would be too expensive.

Interesting stuff this.
It's a real shame that some of the specials and more importantly the paperwork associated with buying, appears to be too complicated to make them viable.
If further tightening up is due in 2009 then the real high spec JDM's may be a thing of the past.
Very sad !!!!!

The government shot itself in the foot a few years back as the SVA centre at Donington Park was full every day with 4 testers working all day. After ESVA was brought in that work dribbled down to one tester 2 mornings a week ehen necessary. There were over a dozen other test centres dotted around the country too.
ESVA test is £185.00 MOT is [ was ][ 40 odd and all that revenue was lost. Once the ruling for ESVA was passed apparently due to Euro law it must stand and cannot be revoked, modified yes, but not revoked So all that lovely revenue was gone........ Tough luck Tone and Gordy
couldn't happen to a nicer pair of blokes,

Around 5 grand assuming that the car can easily be pursuaded to pass emissions tests quickly.
One Importer I know of, had his specimen [ NEW ] car backwards and forwards from the midlands to Fords Research facility at Dunton Essex about 5 or 6 times using a different exhaust and catalyst combinations every time. So several exhausts + petrol & transport + remapping to go into the cost too.
Unless you are going to import a number of cars of exactly the same type and model or have a means to sell on the resultant model report it is too prohibitive to do for just one car.
