Red face 10K / 12 month service cost & options..!!

Bl00dy hell.

Rang my local-ish dealer yesterday evening to find out the cost for a 12 month / 10,000 mile service on my '07 STI. Luckily I was sitting down when I rang, they wanted just shy of £200..!!!!

I asked what was carried out at this service and the response I got was oil, filter and numerous safety checks and err.. diagnostic check for any faults and err.. other checks.

Are they for real..? Am I missing something...? £200 for an oil and filter change and a cursory check over..? That must be some special oil.....

So, seeing as I doubt I'll be selling it for a good few years yet (seeing as no one's allegedly buying Imprezas any more ), do I stomach the dealer price to keep my full main dealer service history or do I take it to a specialist and take a lower p/x price when sale time comes around..? I used Barrats Motorsport in Canterbury previously, but they've shut down now, so I'm up a creek.

Anyone have any idea of what price someone like Mocom or similar in the Kent / South Essex / East Sussex area would charge for this service...?

Cheers,
Nige.

I think you're gonna have a nasty shock when you need a cam belt or other major service . General consensus is use dealer to keep warranty then use specialist. Seriously £200 is the absolute minimum for any dealer service.

My mate owns one of the most reputable independant garages in my town, he gives me trade rates on servicing, the same service as above, plus checking brakes, diff and gear oils cost me £63, think it would have been about £100 for a normal punter.

You don't need to go to a dealer to maintain the warranty, popular misconception.

I take my Spec D to AS performance, becasue they are a specialist I trust and know they use decent oils etc. I had my 24 month service a few months back and the car has 15k on the clock. I paid £130 and the used Motul oil - I got what was left to use to top up.

@ some of the remarks regarding shocks to come. I'm actually in my fourth year of Impreza ownership, so I'm fully aware of the more major service costs, but then I think they are not too bad in comparison to a £200 oil change, considering the work involved in the major services.

As I said, I previously used Barrats Motorsport for servicing, who were very knowledgeable and very reasonably priced, but also carried the same umbrella name as the local dealership, so I guess I had the best of both worlds. Now they've closed down, it's a new game for me.

So exactly how much does main dealer history add to the final p/x price..? Is it more or less than what I'd save by getting my car serviced at an independent for say the next 70k miles?

Any motor trade bods around that can shed some light..?
