I'm thinking the easiest route would be to go to gothenburg from newcastle and then drive to stockholm (about 500km'ish) and then take the ferry to either Oulu or Helsinki depending on where in Finland you aim to end up.
It's gonna cost you, though, the ferry to gothenburg is well expensive. There's one to Bergen in Norway as well, leaving from the south east coast somewhere.

the reply was correct, it is expensive, but can't be wallet busting as i know people that have done it.
Have you considered the possibility of driving through france, germany and onto either Denmark, then drive over the bridge to sweden, the a ferry from stockholm to either turku or helsinki. Or drive to estonia - tallinn, take thew ferry from there which can be a 2 hour trip. That brings you into helsinki. And the ferry isn't too expensive ~100.
But on the down side, petrol prices are going crazy here at the moment. 95 is @ 1.50, 98 @ 1.56 and vpower is as good as 1.60 and if you're running 99 fuel, vpower is the only option as there are no supermarket versions.
Where in finland are you moving to?

off topic, but I *love* your user name
On topic: when I looked into driving across to Sweden for summer, it comes up to roughly the same price to get to stockholm to go the ferry route to either gothenburg or bergen vs driving through europe, as you have to pay for the channel tunnel, a couple of bridges in denmark and then also going across the denmark <-> sweden bridge is 36 euro (!!!!!), plus it's an additional 800 something miles of driving as well, if I remember correctly (well, depending on where in the UK you start out), which isn't exactly cheap in an impreza
