Default NPS (Netural Position Sensor)

Just a quick one,

I went and ordered a Netural Position Sensor from Subaru yesterday
Now looking at my order form he gave me, it says Netural Position Switch

Are these the same thing?
Obviously if they are diffrent parts, i do not want to buy the wrong part and be stuck with it.

Car is a WRX STI Type-R 1999

Thanks

Phil

80% certain it's just different "Terminology" for the same item they should one and the same.

May help the experts on here if a Picture or Part No. to 100% identifiy it

Yep, it's proper name in the manual is Neutral Position Switch.

You can check it out with a meter , across pins 1 and 3 (brown connector) you should have continuity only when the gearbox is in neutral.

Fitted the new sensor today, and guess what still geting the check engine light on.

I have read the engine error codes, when the black connectors are together i get 24 (Idle air control sensor) but i am not haveing any running problems.

When i do the test with the green connectors i get 51 (Neutral switch)

Tryed clearing the codes, but still come back,
Also tryed reseting the ecu, still get the same codes coming up.

Please help as it is driving my mad, im even thinking of selling the car because of this and another silly problem im having

first check old one doing a continutity/ohms test (not meggar ohms), should be "pins" and and Normally open or closed volt free switch, Then check the new NPS whilst disconnected and in positition? Then check in gear and in Neutral? .

Is it just two pins?? Should either 12V or 0V (some things maybe live or negative switching) supply to connector and other cable is signal return to the ECU

Some one must have the ECU Pin numbers for the NPS, will just need to check there it is actually switching there. Possibly a broken connector/wire.

Ill have to try that T5NYW, thanks

The thing is i know how to drive the car and not get the check engine light on, but also i can drive it and get it up all the time

To get it to come on, i downshift, like you would to engine brake, downshift a gear (3rd down to 2nd) revs go up to about 2.5-3k and let the revs drop down to about 1-1.5k (Without braking) this should get the check engine light on every time

To make the car not get the check engine light on, slow down first and then change down gear (NOT engine braking)

I am now thinking, my flywheel might be causing the problem, posibly?
I get clutch judder, so when i down shift to slow down (Engine brake), the car shakes, which im now thinking is shaking something and making the check engine light come on.

Just a theory, does it make any sense?

Nobody else think my flywheel is causing the fault?
