Default steering problem

I've got a problem when i first start the car in the morning. When I turn the the steering wheel (mainly to the right) there seems to be a grumbling noise and notchy feel to the steering.Usually by the time I get to the end of the street its gone and drives perfect for the rest of the day.I have checked the power steering fluid level and it's ok.I've had the car for 2.5 yrs and its the same fluid so it may need changing. My car is an 01 Bugeye and has done 101k mls if thats any help.Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Power steering fluid does not ever get changed as part of routine maintannence so this will not cure your problem.

It could well be that your power steering belt is a bit on the slack side when it is cold (i.e. when starting)

Ok thanks. That will explain the squeeling when the wife was getting the car out of the garage the other day.I will try and check it out tomorrow.

Sounds about right to me. Try a little WD on the belt when cold to confirm.

You have air con, which means there are 2 belts. The one you need to adjust is the belt that runs up and off to the left of the engine (as you look from the front)
