Hello there guys

Im looking at getting a (black) Blob Eye STI UK PPP when my insurance runs on my BMW

Ive had a 4wd impreza sport before and love 4wd, i then moved upto a Toyota Supra Twin Turbo 6 speed which was massive fun

Im now in a 2001 BMW 530i Sport. Lovely car, but i want some Oomph again now

And I love 4wd, nice big power, and lovely flat four engine noise so the Blob STI is the one for me!

What shall i look out for.

Anyone got any thought and opinions on this particular model (and the non PPP)

watch out for the sub 20 MPG and the massive road tax!!

Thanks, i was use to the SUB 20MPG with the Supra, and i brought the BMW to help this, not that great a difference really so i dont mind MPG

But stats like XXXmiles to a full tank
XXmiles to £20

Interest me

TAX aswell i presume will be around £400 after this year

Don't worry if it's not got PPP as a ECUTEK and decent exhaust will serve you better. As per the usual ie Accident damage, Service history and general wear on tyres and brakes. Apart from that rear shocks noisy over speed humps. Thats it I guess.

230 miles to a tank of city driving, slowly and fast, so not too bad £20 will get you sod all these days though.

Whats a tank 50-60 litres?

And what is sod all for £20, i put £20 a week for the BMW that gets me to work and back easy with my own drive time aswell for pleasure.

I get roughly 80miles to £20 from thw BMW, sorry but i use this as an idicator quite alot, on all my cars!

So please guys roughly?

£20 will get you 80 miles on average. If you do long journeys you might get a bit more and shorter ones a bit less.

I know this is stating the bleedin' obvious but the difference between 20 mpg and 30mpg is not just 10mpg - it is also 50%. You beemer must give 30mpg so you are currently enjoying 50% better fuel economy than you will if you give the Scoob some welly. You have owned cars like this before so you know all about crap mpg. Just remember that when you owned your Supra superunleaded was not £1.20/litre - and it's going to hit £1.50 by the end of the year. It makes a big difference.

BlueBlaster thats great, i edited my post before i saw your response, and i get around 80 to £20 in the BMW too, so thats me sold! Great news, the Supra was around the same too tbh, not much either way, the BMW gets a bit of abuse and its an Auto aswell so even harsher on fuel.

Im not phased by crap MPG tbh its what ive been getting since ive been driving so i dont know any different, yet!

ECUTEK around £500 exhaust around £260-£300. A lot better then PPP i've heard mines at 327bhp, where as PPP is 305bhp.

What is reliabilty like on these models. Too many classics going pop around me!

Allthough it does depend how well cared they are, but is there anythig i really need to look out for

And am i right in thinking this model has DCCD as such?

Would i need a restrictor ring and boost controller to limit boost with a new exhaust (essential on a Supra)

ecutek is more 600 mark id say a decent exhaust with sports cat will be 500 ish but is still better and cheaper than ppp, you will get 320-340 ish where as ppp is 305bhp

05 sti onwards type uk has dccd, the jdm models had them earlier but not sure how early.

I'd shop around as these seem pricey, I drove a STI with DCCD and one without to be honest IMHO I couldn't see a difference, this was on a dry day/road.

Opions on the Uk and the JDM

UK is prefered for me, as insurance would be a little cheaper (im only 20!) But ive been paying through my **** since ive passed so i dont mind that it will cost a fair whack. ill be 21 when i get it too.

jgm is mapping my car in a couple of weeks with a group buy discount and its costing £580, now i'm not saying he's the cheapest but he's one of the best and this one off cost includes the license for the ecutek map. if you want further mapping at a later date its more £300 mark iirc

I thought the original Mapper did it a lot cheaper than another mapper having to redo it? I'd double check that mate as I've had quotes of £150-£200 off the original mapper but upto £375 of other ECUTEK mappers.

A lot would say JDM but I prefer UK as all the parts are easier to get insurance is lower and I guess resell value would be better.

mines uk but you get a better spec jdm, if you go to a specialist insurance comp like a plan etc they know their cars and the general thinking on here is they don't cost much if any more than a uk

Id imagine my budget would rest at around 12k, but that is after selling my BM, so theres no point teasing myself just yet, ill get to that phase when i ring insurance and see how much more theyll charge me to amend my policy for one of them.
