Engine rebuild advice and help
Hi, New to the forum (take 2 at trying to post something for Help). I need to get a bottom end rebuilt on an 05 WRX Impreza @61K, anyone used a good rebuilder who will warranty their work and at a decent price. I reckon only bottom end (Big ends had it twice before on other scoobs (bullet proof engines I think not! All dealer serviced cars and checked oil level every 1-2K, never had the oil presure light come on in their lifes) but they all want to do pump, conrods etc why? It was ok before it went and the oil pressure dropped psi from normal and I switched off.

Give David at APi a ring mate. Not exactly on your doorstep , but they can collect the car for a nominal fee, and you'll struggle to find more experienced Scooby engine builders. you'll get a transparent all inclusive quote and a 6 month warranty.
There are cheaper options, but it's a big job, so your philosophy should be: "get the job done right, pay once!"

Chris Palmer Auto in Bristol, 12month warranty on his rebuilds. He had a spec-c down there the other week so it looks like they havent sorted the bottom end problem yet even on the newer ones!

Thanks for the updates
Hi Guy's,
I know it might seem sacralage but I want it done cheap, as when I spent 4K on the last 2ltr boxer(in the B4 Legacy twin turbo) it blow within 24K miles later (less than 12 months) and only had a warranty for 6 months. This was done by Autosportiff who build build rally impreza engines and race them, but these engines don't seem to be able to take a good thrashing (for long), or I am just very unlucky, and I don't buy that as I have been lucky enough to own scoobs for the last 10 years, but time to trade down to something that won't blow up, any good idea's ?
Thanks any rebuilder telephone numbers would be handy as well.

Xtreme Scoobies rebuilt engine of my old STi V back in 02/03. Cost about £3k then 3 month warranty
TX.
Edit - I'd say that you are unlucky as newage cars rarely "blow up" yours being the first that I've heard of.

The trouble is that if you have them rebuilt on a budget without certain problem areas being uprated ( engine bearings, oil pump, crank etc) then you are likely to get the same problem again no matter who does the work.

subaru4you maybe another possibility.
You seem to be unlucky with this being your 3rd bottom end failure. Without you taking this the wrong way, could it be your driving style?

when i went to the scoobyclinic, there was a portuguese guy in having some electrical work done, he was on his 3rd rebuild in two years! (not from scoobyclinic)
After talking to him while my cambelt was done, it turns out he doesnt warm up or cool down, thrashes it everywhere, and regularly visited friends in london which meant (in his own words) doing over a ton most of the way! (in his 96 jdm wrx with a low ratio gearbox, like mine, over a ton means at least 5k rpm)
If you treat your car like this then it will blow up! ( you dont, do you?)

Hi,
Yes I do drive it hard (apparently) (but no harder than any of the fords I had in the past, albiet non turbo, non performance models). I do let it get warm before the foot goes down, but motorway speeds are below the ban limit and it's UK spec so not particalry overrevewing, but acceralation and bends is where it does come into it's own and therefore is used. The last rebuild I had appartently had new Pisoton, conrods, crank, high presure oil pump and Cosworth Bearings (not sure if that was BS) and it still only lasted 24K. Will try some of the contacts provided, So thanks for the details

Many of us on here run well into the 300s on std internals with no reliability issues at all!
