Info please on a WRX STi Type UK 2003-
Hello chaps,
I am looking to sell my 182 Cup to buy a WRX STi Type UK 2003 (l prefer the face-lift model to the bug-eye) and need some info.I was looking at an Evo 7 but the running costs are just bonkers (fuel, insurance etc).
Could you help me with the following;
1.Running costs on fuel (tyres etc,28mpg sound okay?)
2.Servicing costs (when are belts due and how many miles between services?)
3.Is the PPP version worth extra cash over the standard WRX STi Type UK?
4.Are the white, black and silver cars rarer than the WR Blue ones?
Anyone for a part-ex with my car?
Thanks for your help

1, I get 220-250miles from afull tank of V-power (£50)
2, Service every 10k (although I change my oil @ 5k) cambelt 50K I think.
3, I got ECUTEK on mine, PPP seems a lot cash for what you get.
4, Mines in Blue so No comment personal prefrence I guess.

1. £60 to fill up - gets you up to 300 miles if carefuly driven on motorways at low speeds. Usually 250 miles - allows for a bit of fun...
2. Every 10k. 50k for cambelt.
3. The PPP is guff, go for a better option - TSL 333 - see mine for sale below.
4. Blue is best and would you believe it, mine is blue. Blue is fastest!!
Subaru : REDUCED WRX STI TYPE UK WITH OPTIONAL TSL 333 PACK

Expect much less than 28mpg. You might get that on a long motorway run but realistically you'll be looking at 20-22mpg. I came to a MY05 STI from a Civic Type R which gives similar mpg to your Clio. The difference in mpg doesn't sound like much, but it thoroughly p1ssed me off. At current prices I would work on shoving 60 quid's worth in every 200 miles.
Also remember you may have higher loan repayments which, when added to the higher fuel consumption will make for significantly large chunks of money going out of your account each month. And finally, don't forget that you'll be trundling down to the post office with 410 notes next year and every year thereafter to tax the damn thing.
Oh, and one more thing, it would seem from another thread that is currently running that you will need to shell out many hundreds of pounds for a new set of shocks all round because the Subaru ones WILL fail.

1.Running costs on fuel (tyres etc,28mpg sound okay?)
after having it mapped it will do nearly 300 miles a tank if driven under 3k revs, anything over regualry...and its gonna be refill time soon
2.Servicing costs (when are belts due and how many miles between services?)
Not cheap, I think scoobyclinic do a printout of all the service dates, eg months/miles etc - cam-belt 50k miles I think.
3.Is the PPP version worth extra cash over the standard WRX STi Type UK?
I have the ppp and tbh a standard sti can be played around with and brought upto 330 bhp for around £900ish, 450 exhaust (full de-cat) and then re-map and rr
4.Are the white, black and silver cars rarer than the WR Blue ones?
I have a black mica/gold one, blue is the most common of course, black and silver look good, but white is very rare, i think they were by special order only on purchasing for that year

200 miles to a full tank is track day style driving - drive like that on the public roads and you will loose your license/ get yerself killed.
They are expensive but woth every penny.

I think you'll get rather less than that on a track day. That was my consumption driving normally 15 miles to work and back every day on regular roads.

I went from a classic to 182 and now i've come back to the fold with
my04 sti. Have to say in standard form like for like the clio would give the classic and wrx a good run, against the sti its a different story.

Well my 182 is just fantastic...its had a re-map and nothing else but its a great buzz. Of course its no match for an STi in performance terms but it was only £13k new !
The down sides are cheap looking seats and a crap steering wheel but in Racing Blue it looks great.Thats why its going to take a really good car for me to change and the only way to go for me is to an Evo or Scooby. The Scooby has the edge at the moment due to running costs.

For the money its a dam good car. Had mine remapped, full exhaust and uprated brakes. Did manage a couple of track days and the little star did manage to upset a few more expensive motors.

A five grand loan over 3 years is going to cost about £150 a month. Expect another £150 a month on fuel if you do 10,000 regular miles a year plus £25 a month road tax, and £20ish a month extra insurance. Believe it or not, servicing is not such a killer because it only happens once a year and the cars are generally reliable. So I reckon (guessing you are looking at spending £5k plus your car) you are looking at £350ish per month extra excluding servicing. That's £4200 a year or £12600 over three years. Take a look at your current account and see how healthy it looks if you take that much cash out.
And finally....it staggers me how many people ignore what I say about costs. Most people just seem to look at the biggest loan they can get and assume that is the end of the story. Because Scoobies are reliable they don't suffer the normal running costs of fragile high performance cars. But this does mean you can't escape the costs. They are the same (pretty much) whatever you do and however enthusiastically you drive and that means high. Stick with your 182 or get something similar.

I went from a classic to my current 182 cup. As said pound for pound they are hard to beat. Although i miss the sound and the performance sometimes, i def dont miss the running costs. With the price of fuel and tax going the way it is. I dont think i can justify getting another. Ive had a blob eye sti also and they are superb. Even if you paid sensible money for one and just kept it 6 months at least youve had one.

l've just done a 70 mile round trip to see and Evo and an STi.Both cars looked great BUT all the way there and all the way back my car was screaming 'why sell me?' ! It did 38mpg (motorway and national limits plus some traffic) and was great on the twisty stuff...lots of fun. When l got back to Whitefield l spotted an Impreza parked up.So l stopped and had a chat with the lad driving. His was a JDM WRX 2002ish in blue with a big air-scoop and loud exhaust. He told me it was his brothers and that his insurance was on a traders...so cheap for him to drive! He also said that fuel economy was crap...and when he set off at full chat l could see why. But then thats the point of rally specials in my eyes...fast and fun...but they will cost more than a hot-hatch to run.
I love Impreza's/Evo's etc but l have to be sensible and go with what my wage will afford....so for now at least l will stick with my 182.
But thats no bad thing

I went from a 172 to sti. I noticed the horrendous fuel costs and its due a 3yr/30k service so around £385 from specialist or £511 from Subaru. Tax will be £410 next year which will be nice but when I drive it I realise why Im spending every penny I earn on it!! Great cars!

To be honest, if I drove my Impreza everyday then id struggle with fuel etc, as it happens its more like a week-end car so its not too bad.

Tonight l bought some 'proper' 182 seats ...from a standard 182....in the leather/alcantara trim in as new condition (the drivers seat is!) for just £200.
Now all l need is a decent steering wheel and l'll be made up
As for the Scooby...well it will come...just not yet

Tyres, well the standard tyres are about 100 quid each, dont go for budget, you will just end up in a hedge/wall/field.

I have both a 182 Cup and a 2003 STI Type UK and the Clio is definately NOT the faster car.
Both are brilliant cars in there own right, but the STI is much more expensive to run. The petrol is boardering on a joke sometimes.
Having had both for a few months now, I have to ask myself if the STI really is worth it, then I take it for a drive and it still blows me away on the right B road.
BTW - 250 miles form a tank - No way. I get 200 average which is a mix of town and B road driving. (and I have a clean licence before anyone asks)
