Default Caught speeding last night

As above I got caught speeding last night
Was clocked on their speed gun at 99mph in a 60 zone. On a plus point if i was 1mph faster i would be automatically banned.
Was advised I would receive a letter about going to court or that within the next few months. They said that i was being reported for careless driving but the fiscall might change it to dangerous driving.

A mate of mine got caught doing 94 in a 60 a few years back and got 4 points and a £200 fine.

Has anyone else been caught doing 99 in a 60?
Just wondering what points/fine i will get if anyone knows?

It depends if they deem it as dangerous driving, if so it's a whole different can of worms and I wouldn't be so worried with the speeding to a certain extent.

Depends on the judge on the day to be honest.

Your speed is still the same as 115mph in a 70mph zone and 65% over the speeding limit.

I'm not going to preech it was wrong as don't know the situation and been there myself and still do.

I was done for 108mph got 28 day ban and £350 fine.

yea not trying to deny speeding or anything, its a road i travel on every day and last night the only other car on the road was the police car but it was too late by the time i seen it.
Actually went past them at 80 round a slight corner while they were waiting at a junction, i didnt realise they had a speed camera at that point so thought i'd get away with just the 80.

The 2 poilcemen were actually nice about it and didnt have much of a go at me so hopefully the report they put in wont be the worst, but i dont know if the report even makes a difference. Just got new tyres on friday so he commented to say at least i have lots of tread!

TBO if you have to go to court and you`re not getting the option to pleed guilty by post and take what they give you, they can still ban you for doing that speed in a 60 zone, i know you can get banned atomaticly for doing 100mph and thats on the motorway, in a 60 or a 30 at that speed who knows they dont take kindly to people doing 99mph in a 60 if you get the option to plead guilty then ok, but remember the courts can do what they like. good luck

Scotland eh, and there is a mention of carless/Dangerous driving aswell. You'll need to get professional advice from a motoring solicitor. You wont know what charges are being laid against you until the summons drops through the door, (Dont go chasing the police to find out what charges are going to be laid either).

Pop over to PePiPoo: Helping the motorist to get justice and post in the fightback forums ( slightly change the details so prying eyes dont pick up on your case)

It isn't 100mph anymore. Anything above 96mph now goes to court.

what did you do? turn on the waterworks, and flutter the eyelids

if i had ***** (well lady *****) il have given them a quick flash see if that helped.

seems very lenient though. presumably on a motorway 70mph stretch.

good luck to the o.p. can i ask what sort of road stretch it was?

60mph, B road, im up in the north of scotland so its very quiet and there was no traffic at all so wasnt being a danger to anyone but myself. Its a mainly straight road, the only corners arent worth being called corners. Its a 6 mile road which i travel back and forth on at least once a day, wasnt even sitting at high speed for long either.
As mentioned above if i was female maybe i could have just got 3 points and a fine

You will get the option to plead guilty or not.

If you plead guilty what your sent on form will be whats viewed for action, if you plead not guilty that means the police that caught you speeding will attend court to give there verdict. So just plead guilty.

From many friends who've been to court and just the general jist, it honestly honestly seems to be how the judge is on the day. I obviously got one who had a blazing row the night before with his cheating wife, while my mate who did 124mph and got 3 points in a 60mph zone obviously got a judge who'd just had a threesome with his wife and her sister 30 minutes before the court case.

My ban was 2am Sunday morning, 4 lane A1, downhill, dry roads, very well lit and only car on road... unmarked copper.

I then had 6 month wait before going court! that was fun driving around knowing if I so much sneeze and annoy someone it'll make my case even worse.

I thought that, isn't it an instant ban over 96mph nowadays?

As above, i thought it was over 95mph on the motorway and it's an instant ban.

I got caught years ago in my GTi-R. He said he had me going much faster, but took another reading as he liked the car. Got me at 93.5 mph. He said that 1.5 mph more and i'd be looking at an instant ban.

i got caught doing 99 mph on the motorway in north london. Told i was going to court and a letter would be sent to me. 1 year on and no letter. Sometimes the police just scare you and dont do anything about it.

keep your fingers crossed...!

I really hope i dont get a letter, i believe if i dont get it within 1 year im ok.
The policemen said to me in the back of their car that if I had been 1mph faster it would have been an automatic ban so i dont get why they would say that if its now anything over 96mph

EAndy were you told when you got pulled over there and then that you were getting banned?

Maybe this is what they tell a lot of people getting stopped for high speeds around the 90-100 mark. cos i got told basically the same for the speed i was doing.
I'll just have to wait for the letter and take what they give me.

not sure if this still applies but the general rule of thumb for bans and speeding is if you are 30mph over the limit for the road you will be banned! if they charge you with dangerous driving DONT plead guilty as that carries a minimum 1year ban..

I went for a love drive yesterday. Not many people and avoided attention.

Its not the poice who give the ban out, but the magistrates. They have guidelines to determine what punishment you should receive, however you could get a strict magistrate and be banned for the speed your were allegedly caught at. The aspect to worry about is, if the police lay charges for dangerous driving aswell. This carries a custodial sentance, sometimes. This is why you need to get expert advice.Forget about the what ifs etc, you ahve been stopped, so seek advice and then bide your time, upto 6 months before the summons will appear.Andy

I know Thurso. On a quiet back road in the north of Scotland, that's just sneaky.

99 in a 60 isn't sneaky though.

The OP's looking at a period of disqualification and a fine (plus court costs).

25mph over the limit = automatic court appearance, and then its down to the court on the level of punishment. Their ruling will depend on circumstances relating to location, time of day, congestion, speed over etc etc. Fingers crossed for u mate, but unless you have good litigating circumstances, you're looking at a ban n large fine in my experience, i.e 2 week ban n £450 fine for me for 26mph over in a 40

as said above its the magistrates that decide your punishment, see what the summons says before you decide what to do. Depending on your job ask your employer to write you a letter saying how much you need your license for work. I know a few people that have been caught doing over 100mph and got away without a ban. good luck anyway
