How easy is it to free a stuck piston
Basically this story stems off this thread
https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...el-wobble.html
How easy is it to remove the caliper and what are my chances of salvaging my 4 pot caliper, it only happened yesterday morning, Kwik Fit said "we wont even look at it", we'll just replace it and charge you the earth!!
Prats
Thanks in advance guys

Well, it has obviously stuck for a reason. Most likely it will be corrosion around seal and the top of the piston. A bit of crap or brake dust has probably wedged itself between the piston and cylinder. You can get a repair kit, or an exchange pair of callipers, fully re-built and painted for around £200 from Godspeed brakes.
You could try applying some copper grease to the exposed part of the piston and then move it back in with a g-clap. But, I very much doubt any chance of salvage. Once they stick, they're stuck.

I managed to free mine was a 2 man job tho one on the brake pedal and one with a bar pushing the pistons back. Didn't take the calliper off.
Get plenty of penetrating oil in there get them nice and free and then clean them out with brake cleaner don’t think the seals like been left in oil and make sure the discs are cleaned off .
You may need new discs and pads if they have been stuck for a while.

They don’t look as bad as mine did
I would try doing them on the car. Leave the callipers bolted up and the lines will be fine. You will need to remove the pads clean the pistons up as much as you can be careful not to damage the dust covers but you need to get some thin oil in to the pistons. If the covers are damaged you will need to keep an eye on them in the future or just get them refurbed now if you don’t want to do them again later.
Put one pad back in, I used a big flat bar (tyre leaver I think) to push the piston back don’t use a thin bar or you might damage the piston. Put something against the disc so you don’t damage them. Get somebody to press the pedal to push the piston out a bit (watch it doesn’t come right out) clean it up before you push them back in, then repeat until it’s free. You may have to do this a few times.
Then do the other pistons. Clean everything with brake cleaner and you’re done

G Clamps are your friend here - I have 3 6" clamps and with the disc removed it's easy to force the pistons back in. I have had seized pistons as well - locked the other 3 with the G Clamps and pushed as hard as I could on the brake pedal. It did come free with that. It's usually water getting in past the outer seal and causing corrosion on the pistons. I'm sure someone was doing Stainless pistons in the Brake section of the board.

I have released stuck calipers before but no on Scoobys.
Clamp flex brake pipe and remove calliper.
Remove bleed valve and drain out old brake fluid.
Apply plenty of WD 40 around brake cylinder faces
Mix up WD40 and Methylated spirits and pour in to the brake block chamber.
Leave overnight soaking.
Drain and using methods previously stated to move the cylinders in and out.
Sounds like you have damaged the discs anyway so why not bolt the caliper back on its mounting and use a wooden shaft against the disc to move the caliper back in.
Make sure all traces of methylated spirits are removed before filling with new fluid.
Only a suggestion but it has worked for me before.

thanks, got the pads out, after wd40 ing everything and press the brake pedal the 2 top pistons are stuck out so far I get get anything between them and the disk, so It looks like I'll have to take the cailper off, the 2 bolts that hold the caplier on behind the disk are 17mm, I cant shift them, can anyone remember please which way it is to undo them I've tried both, is it clockwise or anti - thanks in advance, I m screwed at the moment!!!

Sounds like you have pushed the pistons right out. If you can line them up suare they will go back in but make sure you bleed the brakes afterwards.
Did you get oil on the pads? If you did I would change them.
Anti clockwise to undo the mounting bolts
Or as the misses says rightly tightly, leftly loosely

Nice one guys, thanks all for you sound advice, 2 fingers up at kwik fit!
Manged to get all 4 pistons working well and free again ) took of all the seals to and cleaned throughly and replaced with the circlip - could have down with someone on the brake pedal for me whilst I was prising them back in to the calipers but hey, I now have fully working brakes again with no sticking, I've checked again today after drive to work, quick jack up and its free as it was before!! - sound advice guys!! - didnt even need to take caliper off - I am now thinking of checking the other side now I know how to as a mini service sort of thing and maybe even paint the calipers to smarten them up - didnt realize till looking online how much the 4pots are worth even second hand!! managed to snap my 17mm spanner on the caliper bolts!
