I've got an eguard executive (£500 installation, £14.99 monitoring). They work on the principal that they direct the police in their chase for the crooks. I guess it has a cellphone & gps unit in it.

ordinarily, I wouldn't be commenting either way (everyone can read reviews, etc), but when the "you've deactivated me, drive away" bleep didn't work I phoned them up and they got an engineer to me (who just replaced the whole lot) within a day.

Also one morning I forgot to deactivate it and literally 200 yds down the road I got a phone call, "Mr Toye are you in your car?"

Ok it went wrong, but they've been polite, quick and done what it said on the tin.

uhmm, just reread that - no I don't have shares!

I went for Tracker from ITM (£475) install and £99 per year subscription or £300 one off payment.

I chose it 'cos the Police have tracker monitors fitted in their cars and so can follow someone without the need for help from "head office". Also works on VLF radion so generally will work where GPS will not (like inside a metail container at the docks!!).

I know lots of people with Eguard though who are very happy with it, but I also know an equal amount of satisfied Tracker customers.

Cheers,

Matt.

Harj,

I've got a Tracker 24hr Monitor and have a mate who works for Allied Windscreens, I'll give him a bell and see what I can get price-wise if you want.

Is the monitoring cost per year or per month?
does the eguard habve the facility to 'kill' the car remotely?

System & service sound pretty good!

Isn't there a system called Scamp that is similar to this, maybe Scapm became eguard?

Thanks for your time.

For what it is worth i have the following understanding - may be wrong and it would not be the first time!

Tracker - Ground based ariel system (owned by Securicor as part of their Datatrak system i think). system relies on the police having the recieving equipment fitted the the cars (five short ariels on the roof) - fine if the Police have them and not all do!
£ 400.00 + install = Yearly subscription

Trackstar - Uses GPS to track the vehicle - ploice are guided by the Tacker (RAC owned) operators to your vehicle.
Same price as Tracker - believe this is fitted to the P1 as Standard?

Hope this helps

Paul

Harj...

Allied Windscreens prices inclusive of VAT + fitting:

Tracker Retrieve : £275
Tracker 24hr Monitor : £475

Then there is subscription which breaks down like this:

£99 a year or one-off payment of £300 (good if you are gonna keep it for more than three years).

These prices are based upon installation into an Impreza.

Allied are on 02476 666622

hope that helps,
ta,
Matt

Paul, the £14.99 is pcm, but you can do one off payments, etc. I went for that so I didn't have to remember, ie; pay 12 months and get my car nicked on month 13!

I don't know whether they used to be Scamp, but the whole company was formed by an ex military guy who did 'vehicle' tracking as his job in the forces.

There's a salesmans story that tells of MI5 using one of these in a car provided for Gerry Adams when he came over here.

Maybe StuartH can shed some light on how the boys in blue perceive the effectiveness of the various systems?

btw, the engineer who replaced my system told me that as long as they get a full signal on installation/setup (only requires high up or open space), then they can usually track in places where you'd think gps systems wouldn't work.

Just got off the phone with the lads Mattski told me to contact, Should I go for Trakcer Retreive as its much cheaper than the 24hr Tracker? I know what the differences are but don't really wanna fork out shed loads on a tracker.

Would Privellage Insurance recognise the Tracker Retreive? I may just call them.

Cheers Mat and Co.

I would have thought the retrieve would be a good value-for-money option but you have to inform them of the theft, what if you're out somewhere?

btw, sorry couldn't get it cheaper, apparently tracker fix the prices, doesn't stop some places that start with Q and ending in uantum hiking the prices up tho

I've got Tracker Guard and Recover, which means that when the police find your stolen vehicle, a tracker representative will go and wait with it until someone from your nominated garage turns up (so no oik who passes and sees the "police aware" notice tries to nick it again).

I subscribed annually for 2 years and then paid the remainder for the lifetime membership. It doesn't cost any more so you might as well pay per year and then on the 3rd year you can pay the final amount.

Harj,

Personally I would go for Telematics eGuard Executive.

Cost to install £400 - 450 incl VAT.

Annual monitoring circa £150.00.

To date I believe it is the only system that can be transferred from one car to another...for a nominal fee of £200.00...obviously when you sell the car

I have heard nothing but good reports from all my clients...many of them now being Scooby owners on the BBS...

If it was me...I would choose the above over RAC Trackstar - even though it is fitted to the P1 as standard. Trackstar costs circa £599.00 + £120.00 p/a monitoring
I don't know a great deal about the Tracker systems...although I believe their GPS tracking system is circa the same as RAC Trackstar...

It is my understanding from the inductry that insurers are going to be pressing for GPS based systems in the future...thus it might be worth considering one of those systems now...to save yet more hassle at renewal.

Give me a shout if you need some info and I'll bring some stuff down to Donno on Saturday.

All the best

Tom

Exclamation

Harj,

I thought the cheapest option was the Tracker, rather the Tracker 24 hour monitor.

I was quoted £375 for Tracker 24 hour monitor, with the full subscription. That also includes the guard and recovery option!!

Definiatly the cheapest!

Andy

Harj,

My dealer took it to Ian Bannings in Guildford, Surrey.

I think that was the price (wasn't more than £400 all in), but that was in April of last year.

Sorry don't have the number, but I think Dr. Evil (Alex) will have it somewhere!

Good Luck
Andy
