Default Sti Ra 2 engine V post version 2???

I could be wrong here but from going through posts and threads from here and other forums it seems that there are very few sti or ra version 2 engines that go bang as opposed to the later models?
I have been away from scooby ownership for a couple of years so I maybe wrong. Is there any truth in this? Are the older engines stronger or the same?

I've got a V2 STi Ra, 61000 miles, plenty of track days and hard road use but always looked after properly. Feels solid and never uses any oil between changes.
This engine has a few features in it's favour, closed deck block, oil sprayers for the under side of the pistons, and I believe it is NOT mapped to run on 100 ron fuel.

Thanks for that, maybe the last line might be a big factor, now that you say it I dont think Japan had 100 ron fuel back then so it is probably mapped for lower grade.
I suppose the only expenses around the 50-60k routinely are coil packs, clutch??
How much roughly are these to do if you have them done?
Re the oil sprayers, are these unique to v2 ra? Is the closed deck an advantage if only running stadardish car?
Thanks.

Sonic74f, I bought mine when it had 35k miles, I was the first Uk owner.

I've had to replace a MAF at around 50k miles £240 (That's something I forgot to mention, the MAF's are reliable compared the the later classics), 4 coil packs (1 per cylinder) £200, coolant temp sensor £30, Fuel pump £85.
The clutch is original as far as I know, I don't do standing starts.

If it's closed deck, then it will have the oil sprayers I think, so v1 &v2 Wrx Ra / STi Ra (22b ? ). Some other cars of that age got a closed deck, it's a bit random.
A more rigid block is a good thing at any power level I say.

Not bad going at all, thanks for your help. Do all V2 have only 2 pot brakes up front?

Yes, the four pots started on the v3. It's an easy upgrade to fit them or the gold brembos, straight swop.
I went for some APs, since I do trackdays.

as far as i know the sti v2 ra when it was ordered new, the customer had a large tick list for options that they might want to do, including engine mods like cams, sti v2 ra engine in my experience reacts very well to modding (if done correctly) and seem to put out great power with great reliability.
