Default buying cars from Japan.

Ima thinking of buying a car from Japan and importing it myself,I have seen some cars that OA grade ,i believe they have been in an accident the car looks fine, the seller has told me that the it has been damaged at front but has been repaired now.
The car is 10 years old ,will i be able to drive it home from the docks or will i have to have it registered first or do i have have it transported?

TBH how can you tell it looks fine?
The costs for exporting/shipping/registering the car are the same so you may as well get a good one in Japan, i.e. 4B or better. Or look for one already here.

You're not allowed to drive it from the docks. The only time you can is to a pre booked MOT.

Yes, absolutely. Although if he's asking this question he probably doesn't.

How much is this 10 yr old car going for mate?

Tbh, you could probably pick somehting up over here for cheap money, rather than **** about having to register it, etc, etc.

Sorry to dig up a week old topic but I thought id try to set the record straight (or at least try to convince myself!)

If you import a classic now provided it is over 10 years old and you fill in the paper work correctly the car will be registered as PLG and under the old tax rules.

Cars imported after march 2006 which were/are under 10 years old at registration will have to pay the new tax rules.

Ok, right, the car is a 10 year old car, it will come with the documents from japan which will state when it was first registered, it will be given the registration of that year on the car, so 10 years is about an r/s reg.
New cars are different, they either go by date of manufacture or registration, but your limited to the time you have to register the car (its like 4 weeks I think) otherwise its date of manufacture.

Don't see why as there won't be manufacturer specific CO2 emissions for that vehicle.
