Default 90,000 mile service on a U.K classic

does anyone happen to have a detailed list of everything that needs doing on the big 90k service for a classic. i refuse to pay over £800 as quoted by my main dealer, plus some of the items have been very recently done on the car anyway. is it any different from the 60k service?

cheers,
Andrew.

Have you tried a Subaru specialist for a quote?

there are non in cardiff apart from the main dealer. besides, the majority of parts needed for the service i have at hand. i'd just like to make sure that everything that should get done is done.
for instance, when the cambelt is changed do i need to change the tensioner kit as well?

Go to Roger Clark Motorsport's website and that should state what needs to be done.

£800 is a bit steep (but what do you expect from a stealer), £550-600 is more like it from a Subaru specialist. Personally, I wouldn't touch a main dealer with a barge pole, unless warranty was a factor!

thanks m8, but that is quite a distance from where i live.

on the the roger clark motorsport website.............. Differential Oil: Silkolene 75w90 Syn5 fully synthetic rear Diff oilchange only, so that answers my questions above. i presume the service list on that site is for a Classic or does it not matter?

Andrew,

Parts changed on a Classic Turbo at 90,000 miles are:

Cambelt
Engine Oil
Engine Oil Filter
Gearbox Oil
Rear Diff Oil
Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Spark Plugs
Anti-Freeze
Brake Fluid

sarnyboy= the service schedule in the service book only runs until 60K. once the car has had the big 90K service i believe you resort back to the 6K service and start over.

thanks Phil, i seem to have everything in order now from your list. i just need to find some capable hands in cardiff to do the work!...................anyone??

Depending on the MY of a classic, the 90k service is so expensive because it's where the 30k major service meets up with the 45k cambelt service. The MY00 Classics have the cambelt at 60k iirc so that's the big one for them

it is a MY99 classic, and did have a camelt change at 57k 3.5 yrs ago. it has since put 20k on the clock. but is up for its 90k service, so i thought i'd best do the cambelt belt again............'in for a penny, in for a pound as they say'.

When I got an MY00 earlier this year I took it to the dealer for the big service. I just got everything done to make sure it was all ok as I'd just bought it and its a bit higher mileage. That was plugs, cambelt, filters, all fluids- oil, gear, diff, brake etc. They came back to me in the middle of it and said the tensioner was siezed and would need replacing but that it is not done as part of a service routinely, only if it is failing. I think it added about £120 onto the price for the tensioner.

cheers for the info. i've got the cambelt, hopefully it won't go as far as needing a tensioner, but fingers crossed.

TBH if you are capable of doing it and have the parts then go for it. Some 'specialists' have quite frankly ridiculous prices for some things. For a 10 year old car well out of any warranty there's nothing wrong with a DIY as long as it's properly done and well documented.
