Leaving aside the love it or loath it debate, I collected mine on Tuesday and, believe it or not, have sat down and read the manual However, nowhere does it mention anything about the STI or its features, ie CDDC control, Sport Drive Control etc I have spoken to Subaru Customer Services today and it appears that a batch of STIs was sent out with the wrong book. The dealers have been notified so I suggest you start chasing them if you have bought the new car.

I also just have a standard Impreza handbook! There was an additional sheet that covered some of the basic controls including the VDC, but nothing on the SI-Drive or DCCD!

From what I've managed to work out so far:

SI-DRIVE:
I - for normal around town driving
S - for motorway driving
S# - for spirited back road driving

DCCD:
Auto - Most of the time
Auto+ - Wet/slippy roads (snow).
Auto- - Dry roads for spirited driving
Manual - Track use or Locked if Auto+ isn't working in the snow

VDC:
On (no light) - Road use
Traction (orange light) - Snow
Off (green light) - Track use


Other than that, how are you finding it? Have you let Sal loose in it yet?

Now that I've managed to unlock the passenger doors and boot and get the MetaSAT registered (only took 6 phone calls to the dealer and Subaru Customer Care ), I'm loving it. So much nicer to drive than my previous STI. Maybe not quite the same "boy racer" image as before, but I think I can manage to live with that. As for Sal, not bloody likely

Multi-mode DCCD (Driver’s Control Centre Differential)




Adjusting the centre differential, along with the helically and electromagnetically controlled LSD helps to ensure that excellent turning capability and stability is achieved in each mode:

Manual mode: Allows a 6-step adjustment of the centre differential locking force.

Three automatic modes: Three different modes of centre differential LSD characteristics can be selected depending on the driving conditions or your preferences:

Auto: The default mode when the engine is started and one that can handle most conditions.

Auto [+]: Increases centre differential locking force for enhanced stability. This mode focuses on traction when driving on slippery roads.

Auto [-]: Decreases centre differential locking force for enhanced turning capability. Here the emphasis is on agile and responsive handling on winding roads.







Multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control System




Designed to offer flexibility and ease of vehicle control, there are three Vehicle Dynamics Control System modes available:

Normal mode (Default): Integrated control of Vehicle Dynamics Control, Traction control, and ABS to assist driving when sideways slipping is detected.

Traction mode: This mode restricts the traction control and Vehicle Dynamics Control System functions and delays brake control intervention timing. In this mode there is no engine torque-down control.

Off mode: Useful in slippery conditions like snow or mud, only ABS is activated in this mode.

Hill Start Assist: Active in any mode.




Press the Vehicle Dynamics Control System button to switch to Normal and Off modes. Press the button longer for Traction mode.

So the one thing that most people want to turn off in the snow (the ABS) is the only thing left working when in slippery mode

Nothing wrong with ABS in the snow! Its hard compound sports tyres that are the problem! Fit appropriate winter tyres and you'll not have a problem with ABS and you'll be a hell of a lot safer in wet too!
