Default 2001 JDM

Had my first drive of a scooby yesterday, with the intention of buying it.

It was a 2001 JDM supposed to be running aprox 280 bhp. This thing was minted, absolutely spotless, but boy was I disappointed with the performance with it.
Like I said this is the first scooby I have driven, so expectations were high, but it didn't feel fast at all.

Has made me think twice about buying one unless it's pushing out serious power.

It was an STI, I usually drive a BMW 330d sport.

I've been wanting a Scooby for ages now, but after driving this, it felt like the beemer was quicker!

Wouldn't a 330D have more torque than a standard 01 STI?

It would feel quicker and probably be quicker mid range. Although I've not driven either.

I really only caned it from standing start to about a ton, but just didn't have that go about it, maybe I had set my expectations too high, saying as it was the first I've drove.

Thing is with 4 wheel drive sometimes you forget that decent power does not equate to manic responce from the car when its delivered.......

Or maybe it was a sick example of the breed... try a few more and judge it against other impreza's that are healthy

Sounds like it was in limp home mode! I have driven and owned both cars. The 330d would certainly feel as strong when overtaking, etc at motorway speeds but from a standing start a healthy 280bhp newage would feel substantially quicker - something is amiss

Why would a JDM STi 'only' be pushing out 280bhp anyway? Thats the standard for the WRX is it not?

Are you SURE it was a genuine STi?

You could possibly have hit the nail on the head, I thought the sti jdm was over 300 bhp, not sure.

Bugeye sti's were never 300 bhp in any standard form, wrx were around the 215 mark, and sti as said 280 ps..... plus gained some lard over the classic sti through evolution..... if it felt slow then there is not much going for it really as the looks are enough to put me off.
