Default 84k on a 2000(year) subaru imperza?

84000 miles - year 2000 - 4wd turbo impreza.

I know relatively nothing about Subarus atm. Please forgive my N00bness. lol.

Is there a bench mark that one should be looking for ?

What i mean is there a certain mileage within reason that you just shouldn't touch etc etc.

Thanks in advance!

If it has a good service history and lots of receipts then thats an average of 10,500 miles a year and nothing to worry about. Arguably low mileage weekend warrior cars may take more abuse than cars doing lots of low stress motorway miles.

BUT - the main service with belts will be due at 90K, which can cost up to £600 - £700 so bear this in mind if you are going to buy as depending on your mileages this could come up within a few months, and could be one of the reasons the seller is now looking to sell it on.

Quite a lot of cars get done earlier than this ( mine was done at 70K ) so ask the seller when they were last changed.

Subaru engines are pretty strong and reliable unless highly tuned, so a UK car on below average mileage ( IIRC the average mileage is now taken as 12K per year ? ) isnt anything to worry about.

full service and cambelt change for about half that quoted above at a decent indipendant......

Just checked and mine was just over £400 not that long back, so not quite half but a hell of a lot cheaper

Have 84k on my (tuned) STi (also a year 2000 model). Car runs likes a dream and no problems. I'd be looking for lots of receipts, showing regular servicing and oil changes.

Mines on 105k, no problems whatsoever apart from a split hose the other day made it overboost.

In fact when I bought it it had 95k, and I then had it remapped - been great since, had the car 2 years.

My previous WRX '95 had 102k and that was tip-top also.

Both my Imprezas have had fairly high mileages, but both through motorway work.

It's all down to the condition of the car IMHO.

My current car (a '95 STI) has about 72k on the clock and, aside from a slightly crunchy gearbox, drives like new. My previous MY00 UK car also had about 72k on the clock when I sold it, and it was virtually like new as well.

On the other hand, I did test drive some cars showing similar mileage that were absolute dogs. The difference isn't subtle, once you've driven a few you'll soon be able to pick out the ones that have been looked after and serviced.

As Mike says, there is a major service @ 90k, so factor in the cost of this.

They do Starship Mileages without problems if left well alone and serviced correctly.

Avoid anything which has been modified, thats my opinion - but it's pretty sound.

Look for very few owners - 1 is best - and look for a fully stamped book or lots of invoices/receipts

If well looked after, these cars will go and go and go, even when tuned.

Trick is finding one that is in good nick and has been looked after properly for its entire lifetime.
