I'm driving one tomorrow (if it arrives at the dealers) been waiting for delivery since Monday.....

It can't be that much better than a WRX heavily modded Leda suspension & a PPP ....can it?

I will let u know shortly.......

Cheam Motors had 2 black ones arrive on a transporter today. They're waiting for a few Prodrive ones now for stock.

First real look - nice. The only thing I don't really like is the rear spoiler - first thing to change!

I've just heard today that the STi that I ordered last Sunday will not be delivered until May. The dealer in question is one of the biggest (in terms of new cars sold) in Scotland. I will be the third customer (from this dealer) to get mine (non-Prodrive blue/black). These cars are going to be scarce this year.

Right peeps, a little drunk, a little tired but...

Where to start, first off, for some reason the car feels more solid, more german in build quality, for some reason the doors close with a more reasuring thud.. the interior, some nice chrome/brushed alluminum touches, such as door releases, gator surround.. Next thing to notice bar the huge bonnet scoob (2x the WRX's in size), is the RPM gauge is where the speedo is in the WRX and vica versa....

Start the engine, and a nice, but not intrusive burble from the rear.. thanks to the STi back box...

I'm not going to go into too much detail, as you really have to drive one to appreciate the car in full..

But, for those of you aware of the improvements in suspension between the pre MY'01 and MY'01 WRX, imagine that x10.. Brakes, there was a slight improvement in the braking capabilities of the MY'01 over the previous models, but the brembo set-up on the MY'01 STi is simply awesome, well balanced, ie. you don't get thrown forward due to weight transfer, very balance and very efficient...
6 speed box, this gives the car some of the rawness that was lacking in the standard MY'01 WRX, although you have to move through the gears quite quickly, when cruising, no matter what gear (speed dependant), there is plenty of power.. Handling - well, the new suspension (as mentioned before) is unreal, very little role, but even on bumpy roads very composed - no major bump steer (i may be using that term out of context, sorry puriests )

It has made my MY'01 WRX feel positively coarse! You guys have just got to drive one! Words don't do it justice,

Alex

As for comparisons with the P1.. if I get my finger out, and make it good, you may be able to read it in True Grip.

RumpleS - just read it, the one I drove had 450miles on the clock, so was still very tight too, but even though it was 'orrible weather last night, I was able to give it a bit of stick on smooth and bumpy roads... I think Subaru have a definite winner here, the only other car that felt as sure footed to me was the 22b I had a quick go in

Forgot to say thanks to Roger @ Bell & Colvill for taking me out last night.

To say I am tempted to get one is a understatement

Alex,
Very interested to see your comments as I collect mine on Saturday morning.
Lets hope Litchfield have it all clean and polished and ready to go.( With Scoobysport exhaust and high rear spoiler)
My wife will be driving back to Watford in the MYOO and me in the STi7 so should make for an intersting drive back down the M40.
Will post some photos Saturday.
Sunday morning will be spent re-discovering some local roads.

Rum - doh, you're in trouble, she reads this forum to make sure people aren't encouraging me! But you're probably right, she would notice

For those that have them on order, nice one, you won't regret it, if you were impressed with the '01 WRX you'll be astounded with the '01 STi..

Looks like I'll have to do another suspension change on my WRX, to try and get it near to the STi set up!

Isn't the sport suspension package the inverted STI struts? Talk to your dealer mate.
Gotta admit a more frantic gearing appeals to me, as even high powered UK 01 WRX's leave me a little cold I'm afraid.

If it is, thats great, cos theyre only 700 quid (ish) + fitting

The 6 gear set up is really good, means you are constantly in a power band, unless you drive like (old man) Trout that is

Well mines on order,
Just would like a confirmation of when I'm going to get it.
Nobody seems to have any set times for the Proddrive ones.

Tried Sti last night & have got MY01 september plate with PPP, prodrive brakes, lights, side sills painted & a bit more (18" OZ wheels)

It would cost me £6000 to trade up (ouch) & I don't even get front fog lights..

Sti nice ride great brakes, but if you had a ppp my01 (speed is not that different).

Whilst I have the money, I won't be spending it on a new sti!!(not til they do it with lights!!) My monies are going on Leda suspension!!!

Sasman - fair enuff matey, kinda lost the thread (aka plot)

Scott - your UK300 is awesome power wise, I think you need to test drive the new STi and look deeper, it has far more potential for carrying a lot more power mate. But to re-iterate, watching yours step out sideways when accelerating was quite cool
