my sti vs my bros S2000
when i picked up my car i went to see my bro who has a S2000 and i thought was very quick. after my bro took my make for a spin he said i was hoping it would be quick but not that qucik so when he said that i just smiled
the thing is he says that mine will be quicker round corners etc but i said his
S2000 will be as lower and rear wheel drive etc.
whats your opinons on this?

I think you might be surprised. The S2000 has an extra 40bhp over the CTR. Even though it only gets to 60mph in 6 seconds it hits 100mph in 14 seconds. Now the STI will hit 60mph in about 5 seconds and 100mph in about 13 seconds. So, the 60-100mph time of the two cars is pretty much identical. Or, looking at it another way, from a rolling start there won't be much in it at all.

True enough, and the STI driver will be working a lot less hard than the chap in the S2000. It's amazing really, but in the real world you now need huge performance to leave a moderately quick car for dead. My old CTR would hit 100mph in just over 16 seconds. Now baring in mind you're doing 100mph at that point and it is dangerous/difficult to go much faster than that on a public road, you really need something like a PPP'ed STI to pull out any significant gap before you have to back off.

I have an STI (with PPP) and my wife has an S2000. The Scoob feels a lot quicker to me, though on country roads the S2000 is more fun to drive. You really have to drive the S2000 hard to get the most out of the engine, whereas the Scoob just flies...

As mentioned earlier, you have to have either a very long stretch of road or loads more power to pull any significant lead
I used to own a "humble" 98 uk turbo with just an exhaust upgrade and i managed to stay right with a s2000 from 40mph to an indicated 145mph
If he did pull any distance on me then it was so small to be of any significance.
I knew the car i had was paricularly strong as id tested many others before buying that one and i know it was capable of out-accelerating my friends jap wrx (although obviously by just a little), so with very similar power to the s2000, that car wasnt exactly going to be tearing away from me!
Would love to have a drive in an impreza putting out say 400 bhp and see how much it would pull on an "ordinary" impreza or s2000-on a track of course!

i chased a s2000 up the motorway once, all the way to about 140 in my old pug 106 gti. obviously he was pulling away but not anything special. i would put a grand on the STI having the s2000 anyday.

The S2000 isn't as quick as some people think, they have just under 240bhp standard and i chased one in my 97 uk a few months ago, my car was bog standard apart from an air filter and back box, he gave it some beans off a roundabout so i did the same and he couldn't get away from me. The road was bone dry as well, just shows how quick even a standard uk scooby is. My problem came at the next roundabout, he must have out braked me by 25 metres or so, i think its fair to say the brake upgrade i had planned moved a bit higher up the shopping list that day!

The main difference is not the 240bhp of the S2k but the relative lack of low down torque.
Compared to a TC motor, you really have to keep the engine spinning/road speed up through the bends in order to have any chance. The STI could be pulling twice the torque at half the rpm and out of mid to slow corners will just romp away..!
Therefore the driver has to be 100% committed in the S, where as the STI driver could be taking it quite easy..

Two completely differnet types of cars, pointless really comparing straight line performance, the S2000 rewards in so many other ways, not least the top down driving, I still miss mine!
