hey guys, i recently had that tiny little silver thing with the hole in the middle, which i think they call the boost restrictor drilled out to combat over boosting, but now the car only runs at 0.75 bar instead of the standard 0.9, and it still overboosts, but just not as far as the cut off like before! now i'm gonna get a replacement boost solenoid, will my car go back to 0.9 or will i have to get a new boost restrictor?????? cheers if anyone can help!

I think you're losing us all here... if the boost is only .75 bar max you aren't overboosting. Does the boost stay at .75 bar or does it gradually rise from there?

sorry, at first it was occasionally running upto about 1.25 and i'm presuming hitting the cut off and dropping to 0.5 instantly, now its going to 1 bar then dropping and running through the rev range at 0.75 bar, hope thats abit clearer???????/

back again.....lol after a little research from previous threads, i'm gettin the idea that these boost restrictors are not fitted as standard???? wot would happen if i removed this boost restrictor and is safe to do so???????

the boost restrictors are fitted as standard. If you remove it you will run about 7psi of boost but wont do any harm. They can be picked up from any Subaru dealer.They will also probably give you one for free if yo u need one.

The restrictors are a couple of quid each, they are called and orifice in the parts catalogue.

Mine has a similar problem, but I have been told that it is because I have replaced my exhaust with a 3" system and lost one of the cats. Apparently the reduction of restriction has meant that the turbo will spool up quicker and the 2-port boost controller is struggling to keep up.

Don't shoot the messenger if I'm talking cr@p, but have you changed your exhaust or decatted it etc?

I've been told it is nothing to worry about, but I'm upgrading to a 3-port when I get around to getting the remap done.

cheers for the info but its ony got cat back and an air filter so dont think its that, its only started for last few weeks, its seems to be too frequent for it to be the cold weather but wen it runs ok its sweet, its a really frustrating thing!!!! lol gonna try a new restrictor and cleaning the boost selonoid and then we'll see

I got a new restrictor from Subaru. The mechanic told me to drill it out until the boost is correct. I got to 1.3mm before it ran properly.
Buy a micro drill bit set 0.4mm up to 1.3mm.
It can be drilled by hand because the restrictor is brass.I held the drill bit in a set of grips and done it in 0.05mm increments until it ran right.
It can be a long process.
