Colour of my wheels from road salt/ brake pads

The front wheels of my B4 are now black with an orange covering. This compound is rock hard and very difficult to shift. I am sure it is a result of the brake dust (ds 3000 pads) mixing with the road salt.
Anybody else having this problem.
It onlys needs one fast trip of 20 miles to achive this result.
