I've just been in to Lancaster Sevenoaks and they have a Sonic Blue 4 Dr STI 6 in the showroom. Apparently to was part of the P1 development process and is one of four that IM have given warrenties on in the UK.....!!!
Price is 27,995 and the car is unregistered although its not new (has some miles on it).
Pretty unique car....
Regards
Jeff

Jeff, that dealership is about 2 minutes up the road from me, are you a Sevenoaks local?
They are a pretty good dealership, always loads of stock, and that sounds like one hell of a car, Ill have to check it out if you havent bought it by Saturday
Not to buy, just for interest, my Integra R is still too young to swop, and of course, something like that will probably carry insurance group 20?

I thought the P1's were based on STi IV's?
So basically it's an 'official' STi, like the P1, but without the P1 extra's, but with some other extras for the same price as a P1?
Stef.

So whats the go with all the different Sti models? is there a huge diff between an Sti4 and Sti6?
Oh, and about Sevenoaks local, I just read, Paddock Wood, still waking up from New Year, hmm, New Year, same job, same debt, same train journey to work, same "why Im late" excuses, I really should have got more drunk.

I didn't say it was a bargain.......Your probable right about the STI IV as it has MY99 wheels on it. I don't know enough about the the STIs to spot the difference. Nice car though and you have the 3 year warrenty and the ability to buy parts/servicing through IM dealers.
Just thought people might be interested....

Sorry, I should have put a smilie in!
An official STi VI (if that's what it is!) in sonic blue is certainly a nice car, especially with a three year warranty.

interesting ? how do you know that the P1 is based on the sti IV ? i thought the sti iv has got a VF23 turbo like the 22B which arrived in the same year. P1 has got a VF28 so i thought it had to be a V OR VI ?!!
however if what you say is right does that mean that subaru think that the sti IV engine is more suitable than the later ones ?
cheers
just wondering

No need to say sorry twice.....:-)
Looks new and is a 4 door and not a Type R which I believe is what the P1 is based on. I'm guessing that it was used to compare the P1 with rather than used in the development process. Its had a new gearbox apparently so you can draw your own conclusions...
Integra R.
Stick with the Honda .....its cheaper to run and almost as much fun (I bought my wife the 5 dr VTI). I actually live in Paddock Wood but I got my MY00 from Lancasters. They also have a P1 demonstrator in.....:-)

Recon I will Jeff, my previous car was the VTi 5 door Civic too, the limited edition S derivative, and it was a quick car, if you drove it like you were trying to kill it.
Thats a V-Tec trate though, the Teg is exactly the same, but quicker, and loads of fun, just wring its neck and it flies.
Still love Scoobies though, I often go up to that dealership just to nose around the cars, bet they hate me, always asking questions and never buying.

The only thing I've got against the VTEC engine is a complete lack of torque....I still lust after a NSX to replace the Porsche though, I'm probable to much of a Turbo Junkie however.

Well its wierd, in the Integra, its not that low, its on a par with the new Celica 190, and above many other cars, its just very offset against HP.
I havent had any probs with the torque, though I admitedly havent driven anything with huge torque, but I find I can pull well in any gear. The only Honda that I know that really battles with torque is the S2000, but the teg is pretty flexible otherwise.
I have yet to try a WRX Scooby though, that'll probably highlight the problem to me.

When I talk about Torque the Honda VTI 5 door does about 120FtLb, the UK Impreza is about 200Ft Lb and my Porsche is 340Ft Lb (figures are approx).
Torque is more important to the normal driver than HP.....

The visual differences between the STI 5 and 6 are that the 6 has a small chin spoiler added to the front bumper + the rear spoiler is shaped differently (even bigger!).Inside the centre storage bin has been replaced with factory gauges as standard.
I dont know of the mechanical changes.

In my standard MY98 terzo (well scooby sport exhaust) vs. S2000 we were pretty evenly matched up to something quite fast... Then I let him go.
It's BHP that lets you make best use of gears - i.e., in a straight drag race, but torque that's best for that mid range real-world overtaking.
cheers

Interested to hear what the insurance company say's about this car when you phone them.
Is it an import....weeeelll it came from Subaru (UK), yes but is it a n officially recognised model......weeeelll it got a UK warranty.....yes but is it a UK car....weeelll....etc etc etc etc.
Cue 50% increase in premium.....
Or am I just being cynical??

I live in Tunbridge Wells, so I think I'll pop along in the black beast to Lancaster and see this 'import' they are trying to sell. Might have a laught and ask them if they are going to service it!
Sorry, being a bit childish, still full of xmas cheer!

Insurance companies are thieves, what a great idea not to have regulation on premiums, so as well as paying too much road tax and excessive petrol prices, we get to bend over and get shafted by insurance too.
andymac, good job on staying with an S2000, those things are quick, Car and Driver got there's to 60Mph in 4,9 secs. They could definitely use more torque though, and that is being addressed in the new i-VTEC engines that will be used in all future performance (and normal) VTEC models. My Integra R has been known to stay with a S2000 (not overtake, but still hang with it) on a windy (thats wine dy, not win dy) race track, because its peak torque comes in much later than the tegs.
Lancaster Sevenoaks have a RB5 outside (you probably saw it Jeff), and Im dying to try something thats a bit of a torque monster, whats the spec on the RB's, what makes them different?

Si is everyone going to be at Lancaster Subaru on Sat? might see you all there, getting new fronts and oil/oil filter in the morning, but am stopping by there on the way home (Honda in Bexleyheath).
If I see you guys there, I might have to show you all what a real performance car can do (no, jokes, I woulndt want to be humiliated by 4 or 5 Impreza's)
