average length of Subaru ownership

What is the average length of time that most people own Impreza's for?
I get the impression that people buy them in their early twenty's on HP/finance, drive them for 2-3 years, realise they are costing as much as a mortgage to run and then sell them to finance a house or house move and never own one again.
I am guessing that 3 years is average, then they buy a 'family car'.
Can anyone prove me wrong?
Just curious as I have read many posts saying that people are selling their car to buy a flat etc etc.

Sold my Fiat Coupe turbo, (a serious money pit) for the a sensible family truckster. (ppp'd turbo wagon.) Tend to get bored around a year & change every 18 months, although approaching a year the novelty hasn't worn off yet.

That pretty much sums me up!
Bought the car brand new 22 months ago and sold it on saturday. I paid £21,300 for it and financed it with a PCP. Lets just say that it has cost me around £700 a month to run the car (depreciation, finance charges, insurance, servicing, tyres, fuel, road tax etc.)
To put that into some sort of perspective the mortgage on our house is only £775 a month and that is split 2 ways....
Glad to be shot of it to be honest.
Before I bought the car I had wanted one for over 2 years so at least it has got it out of my system. It has also taught me just how expensive performance cars are to run. Trouble is now whenever I see a Porsche 911 Turbo or TVR Cerbera my first thought is how much does it cost just to run it....
Think from now on I will have a sensible, cheap to run car as an everyday runaround that I can park anywhere and don't care about and maybe in a year or two get something cheap and fast as a weekend/fun car. The way Impreza prices are going at the moment I may try and pick up a dirt cheap WRX in a year or so and just insure it third party and do all the servicing myself (or rather get my ex mechanic dad to do it anyway!).

Now I'm 30, married, 1 child, bought a WRX Wagon to cart around all the baby bits plus have some fun driving on my own.
All cars depreciate, the Scoob is no worse than any other car within tolerance. I get 28 to the gallon, a set of tyres per year. the big sting is insurance though, currently £700. Expect to pay £300 for a focus 1.8 LX!!!. But hey after all its only £400.

First Scooby I had for a year, got rid of it due to someone going into the side of me and it taking the garage 5 months to get right, so I only had the car on the road for about 7 months (wasn't happy).
Now I've got my P1 then I plan on keeping it for a while, can't see anything else out there that I would want to change it for.

Wanted a Scoob for a while but only the turbo so waited till I was 28 to get a decent premium. Bought my car from a dealer a in Oct 00 when it was exactly a year old. They threw the service and a/c in for free and it was only £16.5k with 4000 on the clock. Couldn't really argue with that so bought it ! Got the house first (4 years ago) before prices went silly so my mortgage is only £400ish a month. All spare cash for the car now but no plans to change just yet. When I do it will almost certainly be for another scooby. Can't beat 'em.

Had my Terzo almost 21 months now and although I'm looking to buy a house soon, there's no way I'm selling my Scoob!
If all goes to plan, my next car will be an STi too although with the house purchase I may have to delay it for a while

I'm 29, married and have two sons.
I waited until last year to buy my Terzo.
I had an opportunity to buy a scoob about 3 years ago, but decided to go for a bigger house with a garage/drive/conservatory etc.
As I stand now, I can't see myself not owing a scooby full stop...even though it does punish my bank account!

Normally change my car every 2 years but kept the Legacy Turbo for 2 years and only changed it after driving an Impreza and making a rather expensive impluse buy, a brand new MY01 which is 2 years old in pril and i can't see me selling to be honest. I'm looking forward to my warranty running out so I can start playing around with it a bit more.

The wife & I started out as bikers When I learnt to drive we got a Legacy 2.2 GX Saloon, brilliant car - still got it 6 yrs later. Then we had the opportunity to get a Legacy Turbo - ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT - unfortunately all of a sudden it didn't 'grip like glue' - But it was a good 2 months By the time the insurance eventually paid out we had saved enough for an Impreza Turbo MY97 - Had it 2 1/2 years now - brilliant car - not necessarily better than the Legacy Turbo Now with 3 sproglets... No plans to change it yet - but if we do maybe a Lexus GS300 Sport - Or a Legacy twin turbo import - YEAH, or.... a B4 RSK - YEAH, YEAH

Your description fits me just about perfectly. Ordered it when I was 22, got the car when I was 23, and am now selling it 19 months later (just before turning 25 ). Bought a house last June, borrowed a fair amount of money to do that, and can't see how I'll pay it off while keeping the car, so it is bye bye Scooby, hello something smaller, lighter, faster & cheaper to run; who needs practicality anyway?

I bought the WRX in September last year and after doing 3000 miles per month at 20 MPG I sold it and bought a diesel Audi A4 Avant. I now get 51 MPG and end up paying £500 per year insurance instead of £1250. The build quality is better too.

Am 26. Had the MY98 wagon for 2 years. Plan on keeping it at least three. Would keep it longer but clocking up the miles.
Bought it on 50% HP. 50% trade in/cash.
Next car may be a Scoob. Can't think of anything else like it.(Evo could be too costly I reckon).
Already own a house. Looking to buy a larger one, but that won't affect the Scoob/replacement.
I don't think it is that expensive to run if you compare it to german cars etc.
I am however surprised at how many owners seem to have money to burn (especially the younger owners - where do they get all their money from?). I would've expected these folks to be off buying M3s and boxters....or TTs!
