Impreza 2.0 GL wagon questions
Hi I'm 22 years of age and i wouldnt mind going for the above car as i got a quote of £1600 for insurance. This will be my first car as i am only learning to drive at the minute. The reason behind this car is that i was originally going to go for a Fiesta as it was recommended by members of this forum for a first time driver but there wasn't much difference insurance wise.
so my questions are
A. Am i stupid for thinking of getting one for my first car?
B. What are they like for tearing up motorway miles? (i will be traveling alot)
C. What are the running costs like on these?
D. What sort of MPG should i expect?
E. Are they comfortable as i would rather have comfort that power etc.

my wife has a gl wagen,
a, totally reliable
b, happy up to around 85mph ( on a track of course )
c, cheaper than my wrx , smaller tyres etc....
d, lucky to get 30mpg
e, used as our doggy holday wagen, 350 miles a day no problem
as lin always says, the wagens a good car, the wrx is a great car

Alreet M8,
I have recently sold my Gl Wagon but I can honestly say it was great.
There good for a lot more than 85 mph (I had 110 out of mine).
There fun to drive, handle well and are often overlooked over the T2000s.
they're also a great way to squeeze yourself into scooby ownership.
they're not cheap to run and require respect and regular servicing even without a turbo.
Look for ragged unserviced cars that have been made to look like a WRX (check the clutch and droplink bushes aswell as the obvious).
Mine was my first car and I cant praise it enough... Check out Gary Moulson @ Keith Michaels for insurance 1600 quid is silly (in the insurance section).
So...
A. No, your not stupid for getting one (good first car) unless your a boy racer
B. Expensive, especially if you plan to go over 60
C. Expensive (25 MPG) ish (depends on your foot)
D. Depends on you and your driving habits
E. No comfort what so ever
Judging by your questions I'd say dont bother... Subarus are expensive to run, service and insure... Get a normal car for a while. I'd been riding quick bikes for years and I was well aware of the running costs involved... also I'm old (32)
Hope this helps mate.
Scotty
But who am I to say Dont, if you want one bro.... GO GET ONE!

cheers for the input chums!
(Shot8un)Scotty, why in you opinion is there no comfort, is it something that could be sorted out?
The reason why i didn't look at the 1.6gl is because it isn't AWD which is a big reason for getting an impreza, and where i live a AWD car would come in handy. Also with the impreza not being exactly light i didn't think the 1.6gl would be great for motorway miles.
I've also been looking at Starlet Glanza's but most seem to be Max'd or just rubbish tips! All i want is a nice lookin car ie nice set of wheels, slightly lower than factory and maybe some Sti goodies esp. rear lights.
I think boy racers are ***** and dont get the whole widearched 20" rimmed corsa scene. I just want something that is respectable and that i will enjoy until i can get a few years NCB's and some driving experience behind me.
