Exclamation COOLING SYSTEM UNDER PRESSURE PLEASE HELP

Ok i fitted the new rad and thermostat did the usual thing squeezed pipes left cap off trying to release air heaters on full, as soon as i put the cap back on took the wife to tesco 6 miles the rad is still cold on the right side and the bottom right hose (same side) was also cold and was swelling. I know these systems are pressurised but it does not seem normal to me, is their a certain way the thermo has to sit due to the toggle pin on it?? my temp stayed at 85 and the heaters were hot everything seemed normal from inside the car.. PLEASE HELP thanks jim. IT`S DRIVING ME MAD!!!
