downside to bungs is they can rattle and sound like ur car is farting. the other option is to get a resonated box built into your exhaust. It would probably set you back £80-£100 quid but will make your car sound better all round esp if its silly loud.

Good for you to recognise your social responsibility.
A nice sounding exhaust is great on the open road and at a track, but some of the VERY loud exhausts offer little performance advantage and they can cause misery to neighbours.

No, but you might be eh?
How do you know there aren't other reasons this guy is a bit of a dick? He could be a complete ****, and has added complaining about the OP's exhaust to a long list of obnoxious behaviour.
At least the OP has recognised his exhaust is a bit loud and is wanting to do something about it.

My exhaust is loud, and i have considered getting a bung but haven't bothered, because none of my neighbours have ever complained about the noise, but if they did i would do the decent thing and fit one, i think its important to get on with my neighbours, as long as they tell me in a friendly manor and don't come round looking for an argument, i would be more than happy to oblige and fit a bung.

I'm with JohnD - the neighbour is not a ******** just because he has complained about your (probably illegal) noisy exhaust.
And you are not a ******** as you understand the issue and wish to do something about it.

I've got a Blitz Nur Spec R which has been used since day 1 without the bung. My old neighbours used to go apesh!t about the car being too loud but then they just contradicted theirselves when their son turned up in his Supra or Skyline or M3 or now his IS200 which were all loud.
Now had their son not had that loud exhaust on his car and they'd came and asked me like a civil person I would have quite happily put the bung in and lived the rest of my life but no I carried on driving without it in just to hack them off a little more.
Now I've just moved house and my new neighbours love it, all the kids in the estate stand outside getting pictures etc and they love it. Now if these came knocking on the door asking for the bung to go in then I would without a doubt stick it in due to the fact they have young children.
As stated above it does take 30seconds to stick the bung in and nice on to the OP for deciding to do something about his noise levels. It does prove to the people out there that not all Subaru drivers are *********.

At what point do you need to consider this?
No-one has complained about mine, as it is quite quiet. But I would like to get a APS 3.5" system (currently a no name system/backbox) but am concerned about the noise.
I only use the car two or three times a month and never early morning (don't think i've ever been later than 10pm ish either).... Should I be concerned about the noise? I concerned at the moment but should I be?
Just to add, I'm not changing for a louder exhaust, I want to get a less restrictive one... if anyone can point me in the direction of a similar, quiet exhaust - please let me know. Quieter the better as do not like attracting attention and want it to pass for track days etc...

Cheer them up even more and get a Harley Davidson Bike as your next toy, s*d the neighbours..... start complaing about their dog barking or all Night or craping all over the place or something else to retaliate.
