Default Standard internals?

Evening all was just wondering what is the max safest BHP and Torque I can run on my standard internals (Turbo 2000 UK Classic) realise after 340lbs Torque I will need a new gearbox I have budgeted for that and wanted to get upto and around the 400bhp mark with Torque to match but was wondering if my standard internals could take that kind of power or not. Thanks in advance.

Hey mate, there is no definate limit limit that one could apply to all: depends on the age and previous use of the car, the modifications, the mapping (crucial) and the current owners driving style and intended usage. They can and do take up to 400bhp, but I think most people settle on the mid 300s before upgrading internals.

If your hearbox is a good un, the car is mapped sympathetically and you drive with bit of mechanical sympathy, your gearbox may well last!

You could do a lot worse than speaking to David at APi about this.

Like for like, assuming everyting is still has good tolerance's with little wear, I reckon every engine is good for 400hp, newage or classic with the correct supporting mods. If you've a low mileage well maintained engine, I wouldn't worry to much.

Do you/will you give it death everytime you go out in the car?

I'll be hoping to see 400+ on standard internals on my newage and I read on here somewhere a guy running 440hp on standard internals and its not Mr Forrest, although he did map the car. I dont drive my car to within an inch of its life, I like to think that I change up when the peak power has past, even when I'm on a mission to try and pass myself.

Just do it, it'll only go pop, then you'll know you need a rebuild

how about the CDB units, is it just the block that is tougher or are the internals on these slightly better ?

Cheers
Chris.

A closed deck block will be ultimately stronger but how much power do you want?

As to if they have stronger internals, I dont honestly know.

CDB just refers to the block, you can put what ever pistons in you want. if your having a closed deck block fitted then put forged pistons and uprated rods in for definate or the CDB is a waste of money

Sorry I thought we were refering to cars that came with CDB's as standard, like the early WRX imports.

Agree'd with Tidgy, no point fitting a CDB if your not going to fit forged internals.

sc450 is prob the cheapest option mate, bear in mind its not just the engine you'll need, your gearbox and clutch will need changing as well, brakes and suspension are also recomended for that sort of power

What he said!!

12k is pretty damn good for a spec that produces that power reliably I'd suggest!

Would it be worth keeping the 2.0 bottom end with a new box and just fit new internals (I.E Forged rods and pistons) just to be safe or what would you all suggest, would like to keep the 2.0 litre engine if poss its well maintained full service history and 60,000 miles on the clock, I dont rag her every day just now and then when the mood takes me

Personally, If I were going for 400bhp, I'd upgrade the internals. No point having the power if you're afraid to deploy it lest something break.

You should have a word with your mapper and an engine builder like APi mate- they will be in a better position to advise.

oine thing to remember is your car is only as strong as your weakest part, if your piston or rod let go then may destroy the block, or damage more parts which means you'll be left needing another engine build

The other thing to remember is

Speed is a question of money, how fast do you want to go

i was reffering to the factory lump from my RA which is a CDB i want sure if the internals were in any way uprated too or if it was simply the block that came standard as a slightly stronger part.

i think the RA, as long as its the sti RA, because thee was a wrx RA, should have the same forged internals as a normal sti, but i'm not positive
