£800 is just for the parts.. but I still think thats a slight understimation

Surely that shouldn't be put back on the road, its mangled! Next time someone asks if they should buy a previously written off (cat c) car show them that add.. They will run to the hills hehe!

LOL i spose he never said they were new

IIRC the Front Prodrive Bumper was over £800 on it's own + £500 for a pair of Barge Board covers ( we bought Fog lamp cover @ £300 a pair) all + VAT

Front end damage looks odd....looks like it went under a truck (or 4x4). As the inner bumper is pretty much undamaged (therefore chance the belts may have avoided a thwack).

Still not worth it, its a ten-a-penny bug-eye. Which is why it was written off and not being repaired- parts are worth more than the car.

He bought it to repair but decided against doing it - why did he put his private plate on before it was sorted?

For parts it might be worth it for someone, Brembo's will sell for a fair price, interior, engine (or engine parts), gearbox etc could make a tidy profit for someone who knows what they are doing.

If it was brought wrote off then the MOT shold have been cancelled by VOSA as far as I'm aware and you cannot put a private plate on or take it off without a valid MOT. Something smells very fishy there. LOL

Its barely damaged! Repaired properly that would be as good as new (but the paint would be better)!

If you were correct then every person who had their vehicle written off by their insurers would lose their cherished number. As would people whose vehicles were stolen as thered be no possibility of an MOT after one year. Unless the rules have been substantially altered then the vehicle has to have existed, been taxed and held a valid MOT within the last six months in order to transfer a chesrished number from it.

Didn't think the MOT can be "cancelled" !!

I had no MOT due to 3year old at death, on my "written off" car and I did get my Private plate back you need

to cover missing MOT

1) a letter of "no interest" for in the Plate from your insurer

2) Proof from the insurance assesors that it is written off.

for the rest of the transfer

1) the V5 in your name

2) insurance in your name for that Registration number retaining

3) current tax (may have 30days grace) or you may have to purchase 6 month Road Tax.

Since I did mine april 2005 Then the rules have been changed to 60 days grace for MOT's (may also include tax) but has again been extended to 180 days

Hence original owner probably found it TOO difficult to get it retained and left it on the Car.

IIRC

Default Something fishy

The fishy bit is:
The car is categorised as a cat C.
All Cat C cars need a VIC.
Insurance company should retain the V5, to ensure VIC is carried out.
In order to receive the new logbook the car must undergo VIC,
In order to get a VIC, the vehicle must be significantly repaired.

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't describe that as significantly repaired.

He says he has sent the V5 off, why didn't insurance company keep it?
It is possible it is cat c from a previous knock, and this one has not even been assessed.

I once went to look at a blue classic, and when I HPI'd it, it had been written off 3 times by 3 different owners. Now that is an unlucky car.

The MOT doesn't get cancelled, but the insurance company used to retain and destroy the old MOT, not sure how the new computer system deals with it.

Thats the only part not true.
A VIC is a Vehicle Identity Check. to check you haven;t rung it over from another motors ID. Some selavage yards will get a VIC done for you on a damaged car, before you even buy it, without any repairs made.

isn't the V5 kept by the "Owner" ie,

the Insurance Company (when they pay you out),

the salvage/scrap yard (but marked up CAT 1, 2. or 3 as appropriate)

the original owner (if he buys it back)

taken from: vosa website:
http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/repo...Sep%202006.pdf

page 3 item 7

VOSA can refuse to carry out the VIC and retain the fee, for any of the following reasons:
• The car did not arrive for the VIC at the appointed time and place.
• The fee has not be paid subject to the conditions stated above.
• The car emits substantial quantities of avoidable smoke.
• The car is so dirty that carrying out the VIC is unreasonably difficult.
• The car or its contents are in such a condition that a meaningful check would involve danger to a
person, or damage to the car or any other property, or that current health and safety legislation cannot
be followed.
Sufficient repairs have not been carried out to support the intention of returning the car to a road worthy
condition, or the car cannot be driven under its own power.

Interesting.
Some of the cars the salvage yard takes for VIC's have been in a simular condition.
Personally, I wouldn't risk it, as they say if its failed it can't be re-tested.
