Buying advice/opinions wrx300 v sti ?
Hello from a newbie, I think I've been smitten with a Subaru, its an 05 wrx 300 limited edition with PPP, 32000 miles at £11995. I have been looking for an STi up to £13000, but saw this locally and after a drive really like it. I've only had a brief drive in an 03 STi but that got me wanting a Subaru, so my dilema is whether to hold out trying to find an STi or go for this wrx which has quite a lot of STi type bits on it. He says its faster than an STi and after driving it I've no reason to not believe him, it was awesome! Can anybody give me any pointers that I might not have thought of, or opinions, or should I just go the whole hog and get an STi (PPP) ???
Very confused,
Vance

Type WRXvsSTi into the search facility and you will have a weeks reading !
The 300's are very nice versions of the WRX, but it is at the end of the day a WRX. It ain't faster than an STi with the PPP, because the PPP is rather generous in its marketing numbers ! Depends what your plans are for the car really, but the WRX does need more money thrown at it to make it a match for the STI. Speaking from experience you are better off buying the STi purely for the turbo, brakes, intercooler.......the list goes on but you get the picture.
If you do buy a WRX the 300's are the best looking IMHO.

Thanks for the replies, I agree its the best looking WRX I've seen. The STi's are just that bit more expensive though, is £11995 a decent price for the Special edition 300?
Thanks

No contest STI !
Better brakes, easy 340 bhp, up-rated suspension, six speed box, only reason to choose the 300 would be cheaper insurance ! But still a very nice car anyway !
Sorry six years on I still wouldn't change mine for ANYTHING else, well maybe a Zonda and a super model....
Sorry no, keeping mine. Zonda won't fit my garage !

There is nothing special about the wrx 300 apart from a bit of bling. Its mechanically no different to any other wrx from the same year. My advice from experience would be to go Sti unless you really like the 300 and don't see yourself spending lots of £££'s on more power and better brakes etc. £12k should get you a 2003 Sti in good nick I would have thought.

From a skint and modified 03 WRX owner, get the STi.
Or you will regret it if you get the modifying bug later. Even if you keep it standard you still get more for your money in the STi.

Thanks again, I was edging towards buying the wrx 300 ,but I'm not so sure now. I really need to try an STi to see the difference, I guess. I did like the interior of the 05 model though, and it has the inverted struts like the STi.
Now thoroughly confused!

Only plus side of a WRX300 is it has PPP as STANDARD, which means it is an insurance model in its own right and the quotes reflect that...... that is the only reason I bought one over a WRX SL + PPP

The sti is better than the wrx in every way, don't get the wrx and settle for second best get the sti, otherwise every time you see a sti, you will think if only i had bought one of those, you will get a good blobeye sti with ppp with your budget its a pity your not local to me i would take you out in my 03 sti ppp you would love it, its a totally different animal to the wrx, good luck with search for the right motor.

wrx
bought a wrx 300 2 months ago and cant fault it. like you was unsure what to go for but the insurance and performance figures swung it for me 0-60 4.8 secs and 145+ and for £13000 for a 2005 with 23000 on the clock and warranty im well pleased but having never driven an sti i cant tell you what to go for but the wrx is a good choice. i used to have a rb5 prodrive and this feels a lot quicker, whichever you go for you cant go wrong.
