Question

Hello

I don't have a scooby but I'm after a UNICHIP.

Does anyone know where I can get one fitted and set up near me? I'm in Ayrshire, Scotland.

Speak to Storm Engineering. They are the importers of Dastek kit and are in the process of setting up a RR to set this stuff up. I couldnt wait and went to Cheltenham

Not sure what is actually the problem with Grants car as i think he is getting in checked out in Jan. Might be overboosting too much in the cold?. Grant needs to clarify it..

Mine, that map was when i had the Link first installed. The overboost has since been removed (although there was no det at the time. Went like stink to 3k..... . This was on the std turbo TD04.

I now run 1.2 bar held with a larger VF23 turbo on a UK MY99 (stock internals) along with all the other breathing mods. Unfortuantely, havent been back to a rolling road since, but plan to do so soon. Yes, larger turbo = most pressure for a given boost.

VF23 is slightly more laggy but not unliveable around town, with hindsight i might have gone for a hybrid, say VF28/VF23.

As has been stated many times before, its not just the chip but the mapper that is more important. Journey to wherever u decide at the end of the day would prob make all the difference.

Sunil

Sunil, serious question (for a change ) until what RPM is the 1.2 bar held? All the way to the readline, or does it trail off before ?

264bhp and 250lbft on Grant Sugarman's MY00 dyno.scoobynet.co.uk on PE rollers with Unichip, induction and exhaust sounds just the ticket - esp. if it can be installed in Fife! What put me off so far was insurance problems and the need to go back to Cheltenham for adjustments - e.g what if you set it up in winter and then you get to summer and the map is a bit aggressive?

Exclamation

Grant Sugarmans car is also possibly detting and making weird noises, could well be needing a winter map?

Grant?

264bhp is obviously a bit good for relatively few mods. Maybe a more conservative map would be easier to live with?

Sunil, I take it the whole thing is not as simple as winter=more power safely then if there is a suspicion of detting in WINTER? Can you explain a bit more? And your 22/17psi - is that with a larger turbo but stock internals? - 319lbft must fry your kidneys! If you use a larger turbo does it put more air in for the same pressure? Doesn't sound very laggy if you get such an impressive overboost low down - must be an impressive drive.

Thanks, John

Well where to start.
The Uni-chip does make one hell of a diffrence to the performance and so it should, although I only wanted a safe map and to take no risks.
Initially the car was running a bit lean but after a re-visit this was remedeed.
The boost holds very well at 17.5psi and doesn't spike above this.
The only down side is the need ALWAYS to run on Super Unleaded and as I cover about 28,000 miles a year this mounts up.
Have taken to using Millers Octane booster and this gives an even greater improvement in smoothness and performance.
The car is a world apart from a standard MY00 in terms of performance, so have upgraded suspension and brakes to make a complete package.
