Dont know about the WRX but Scooby as Subaru sort of rhymes with Scoobydoo, hence scoobies.

World Rally Xylophone :-)

I think it's World Rally and the X is for the spec, this became the standard. I'm usually wrong though.

Default It All Happened A, Long, Long time Ago. . . .

Apparently, Subaru got their nickname "Scoobies" because of a group of scuba divers down in Cornwall.

They all parked up in their wagons, unloaded their gear.

The rest is history, so they say.

I just read this somewhere, it maybe true.

The WRX stands for 'World Rally, highest trim level'. The 'X' denotes the trim level. The non-turbo versions in japan had trim levels F, S, & X. The turbo cars only had the one trim level.

The name scooby was first used (allegedly) in Used Cars a 1980 movie featuring Kurt Russell

Normski's sounds most likely, perhaps the others would like to give an explanation and providence rather than claims...

Subaru rhymes with Scooby doo.....
