Default Stroker Kits?

What exactly are these and what do they do?

They are designed to change the capacity of the engine by fitting larger pistons and/or changing the con rod or crank lengh to give a larger chamber volume however that option also changes your engines rev characteristics and sometimes your compression ratio.

Is it worth spending the money on this or not and if so what else will be needed apart from gearbox as from what you have said does it take care of all the internals or is it worth doing it bit by bit.

Well i don't know all of the ins and outs of the boxer but that does cover the majority of the performance bits, you would still need an uprated oil pump acl big end bearings and a performance cam belt at least there could be more i don't honestly know your better off asking one of the advertisers on here.

Personally i would fit a 2.5 and put strengthened internals and gearbox in that, but it's all down to what you want from the car really.

Hux is correct, but he asks a good question of you about what do you want of the car.

If you keep the 2 litre:

Strip it/refurb the liners
Forged pistons and good forged aftermarket rods and good bearings.
Add good MD 321 series turbo and supporting fuel and ECU systems.

Replace the clutch with an uprated AP or Ecedy unit and add lighter flywheel.

Replace/uprate the gearbox unless yours is an Sti/Type R one where you might get away with it.

Have the car mapped and always use the fuel/booster the mapper tells you to.

The car will be very very quick and free revving.

The 2.5 conversion will be simpler and give a full-bodied road engine that will be a joy.

I have spent 2 years considering all the options, and there are several that work for your given use.

If you need real help in advice/costs or actually doing it, then call David on Welcome to the API website.

911 and his massive 'cut and paste' answer section strike again
My friend, you really ought to have a proper Q and A section on here, seriously, talk to Webby about it. With your knowledge it could be put into one easy to search section.

The benefit of a stroker kit is that you retain your original engine number.... this avoids your insurance company knowing that you actually have a 2.15 L engine in the car.... torque output will be stronger in the lower rev range, but should still rev up to the limit o.k. cheaper to buy a 2.5 short motor, and tell your insurance company the truth !

MaDass:
Take your point. When i was starting out in this hobby of Imprezas I asked stacks of questions and was lucky enough to get some good advice.
Not sure if my advice or opinion is good, but you do gleen a lot off these sections over time and I just seem to repeat what a good search will do.

For many, it is the same question over and again, especially suspension!

Sometimes though, there is always something extra to learn or consider, so that is good for me!
