Avoid like the plague, if it was an sti it would at least have 4 pots up front not 2 pots, afaik early mc rae cars were blue but i could be wrong on that one.

Looks like a boy racers car, id avoid, much nicer cars to be had if your patient.

Edit: auction has been ended early hmm.....seems fishy.

This car is quite tidy, you can tell it's led a reasonable life.

So at 22:31 you ask for opinions, it is slated by about 6 people, then at 23:27 you buy it?

This must be a wind up, right?

Fools rush in.....

I hope it is a good car, but do doubt it, it rings a lot of alarm bells.

There are so many scoobs out there why rush in and buy with such haste.

Oh well

from what he has said hes just agreed to buy it off ebay, so as far as im concerned he dosent have to does he? its mis represented anyway so thats a good enough reason alone not to buy it.

Choco thats a bit harsh mate, are you still driving that cinquecento?

if you are wanting a true opinion on this I think we need engine pics (close) and also vin numbers, also I live quite close to this so I for one dont mind going to have a look at it with you?

My work car has nothing to do with this. That is plainly the worst type of old Impreza. Cars like that and their owners are the reasons that well cared for cars are worth f*ck-all!

Well well well the plot thickens, it seems he posted about being after a silver wrx back in september, hmm may'be it's a sneaky way of drawing attention to his car that's for sale?

Maybe he actually owns that car.

What are you on about, this is not my car-yet!!! Gosh I only asked for some advise guys, please don't be soooooo paranoid!!! Looks like some of you guys have had a lot of bad experiences with subarus!!! So is there a way of checking this car out properly? Can I get the vin number for instance and check with subaru directly? Will they know details of imported scoobs?

Also he has agreed to me checkinng it out and driving it tomorrow, what should I be looking out for???

Thanks.

Your best bet is to ask shaggy if he'll come along and have a look, they are generally solid cars but you need to look at the obvious like cam belt, tyres exhaust, engine oil etc.

Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Scoobypedia / Scoobypedia

Everything you need to know is on there.

You will find a lot of us critical as there are a lot of beat up sheds around and last thing we'd want it someone to end up buying one.

Here's the vin number list.

Basically guys I agreed to buy the car a few weeks ago, so the guy took it off ebay. I have paid a deposit and have the balance to pay next friday when I collect. That is why im looking into the car now before I buy next friday. I went and had a quick look at the car and it definately has a red top engine in it. The paint work is in mint condition and it seemed in overall very good condition. The only reason I have even started asking questions is due to the guy claiming its an upgraded wrx (which I never heard of before). Its got the red top engine, better seats, gear stick, alloy body parts.

To me the car seemed genuine, but now im not so sure. Im goint to drive it tomorrow, what should I be looking out for?

Cheers guys.

It's just a V2 WRX. Remove all the crap and it'll be an ok car.

The red top could be either the inlet was painted or it has had an STI engine swap in japan. Anything is possible but I'm pretty confident it came form the factory as a normal version 2 WRX (v2 means 260ps model with different interior and other bits as opposed to the earlier 240ps model)

If you paid a reasonable amount for it I don't see what everyone is getting wound up about! Few hours removing stickers and it'll look like any other WRX.

The way it looks isn't the real bone of contention, it gives an indicator of what the driver is like ie chav.

That and he mentions five kids doesn't bode well for the cars past.

well put and spot on.

Remember - It is easy to tart a car up for sale. does it have history and a wadge of receipts, even if the guy has done the work himself - HISTORY!

5 kids takes a toll on finances and it may well mean the car has taken a back seat (so to speak) Whilst reliable if maintained the scoob can be a nightmare and a money pit if not looked after, this is true of most cars but factor in a turbocharged 2.0l outputting 240+bhp and a 4wd system and you have a lot to go wrong.

I place a lot of store by the appearance of the owner/family and thier propertytbh, occasionally you find an anorack that spends every penny on his/her car to keep it tip top but otherwise is a scruff owner/house/kids, etc then chances are ther car may not be a top priority and warning bells hould be ringing..

Being able to afford to buy a scoob is one thing, there are plenty of cheap ones about, the proper maintenance and replacment of worn out parts is another.

Buyer beware
