Hi guys,

Considering getting this car- Subaru Impreza 2000 AWD Turbo on eBay, also, Subaru, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 16-Feb-08 16:55:14 GMT)

I have to be quite specific with the car i choose due to a finance agreement. The car can't be more than 10 years old at the END of the agreement and has to be insurance group 18 or less.

That leaves me with only a tiny selection of UK 2000 (year 2000) models to choose from. With that in mind, what are your thoughts to this car?

personally i would never buy a car on ebay, but thats just my take.

the 'power chip' would put me straight off

Power chip can be removed immediately and a rolling road remap to put everything back to standard.

Ebay is just a way of advertising, you go and look at the car, inspect it and then decide if you want to buy it. A classified advert on ebay is no different to autotrader/piston heads/local newspaper.

its your risk, but depends what damage has already been done, for the 7k mark theres a alot of impreza's out there so not worth risking.

There are very few 8 year old UK2000 models at all. Maybe 5 for sale in the UK at moment?

I really wish they were Tidgy as that would be ideal. But no apparently they're now all categorised as insurance group 20.

If you know differently please say as I can stop scouring the country trying to find these damn classic uk models! lol

hello again premadonna, went off last nite due to bein shattered! erm same as everyone else is saying, although its a classified ad ebay still seems dodgy to me. also in my opinion if u want a car to be perfect i.e the way u want it, buy a standard mint one then get it remapped urself. u'll know everything is done right then.

Admittedly i'm sure they do pop up from time to time, but trying to find a low mileage, unabused uk 2000 on a 2000 plate or newer, from a dealer is just about mission impossible.

Ideally i'd like to find one that's been tuned as i know from my own experience just how much it costs to do it yourself. Although not tuned with a 'power chip'! lol

Hmmm, I'd forgot it had to be from a dealer...dont really know what to suggest other than keep looking. I would never buy from a dealer so dont know much about trying to locate one. well I bought mine chipped but It was my friend that owned it before me and it has got every possible bit of service history, including the printout from power engineering where it was remapped. knew they were spot on, and a big company so didnt have any worries bout the quality of the work done.

"power chips" definetly dodgy as its most likely another lovely product from ebay or similar. lol

That car seems well over priced to me, I would say that should be about £5k.

You would only expect to pay £6.5k for a really good, low mileage standard X reg car. That one has obviously been meddled with, it doesn't have air-con, it's got a host of tacky looking add ons, WTF is that bonnet scoop!

Also if you're looking for group 17 insurance you are presumably worried about the premium, have you considered you'll have to inform them about the following mods:

Looking at the EBay ad, it isnt being sold from a dealer ( in a dodgy roundabout way ! ) they are just advertising it for someone who works for someone they know, so it is a private sale. This would put me off straight away as it appears to be a dealer selling it, but they arent offering any warranty, and this would rule it out from your criteria.
