Question URGENT HELP REQUIRED - BEST WAY TO PROVE VALUE OF MY CAR

Unfortunately my car (02 WRX - 32k - FSSH all extras - see my scoob pics) was written off (see here: https://www.scoobynet.com/members-ga...ugly-site.html ). The insurer now is going to pay out for a total loss claim but is working off a value of only £7k for the car.

I have advised the cars pre-accident condition was immac (not even a ding) - even my main dealer Tileys can vouch for that as they saw it 5 days before the accident. At tileys I've seen 02 WRX's with higher mileage and lower spec than mine priced at £9,995.

I need to supply proof of valuations for my car - the question is where is the best place to get this?

All help is very appreciated.

Cheers

goto tileys and ask them to confirm what they would have sold the vehicle for on their forecourt giving the pre accident condition of the car.

To be brutally honest I can't see an '02 WRX being worth almost £10k. My local dealer has an ex-demo WRX with 500 miles on it for £13k. Thats a car that's five years newer and almost unused for only £3k more. I would have thought that the real value was closer to the £7k your insurer quoted.

If you want examples of the value of your car then why not go to the Subaru UK website and use their 'used car finder' to print out examples of similar cars available.

Isn't this the usual game when dealing with your insurers though?

They give you one figure. You go back with evidence suggesting the car is worth more. They come back with a higher figure which you have to accept.

If you don't accept the 2nd figure, they come back with a 3rd which is lower than the 1st.

Isn't that how it works. Farking con IMO.

Just going by what's on the forecourt mate - 51/52 plate WRX's £9,995 with 50k on the clock and lower spec. £7k you'd be looking at an import

Lee exactly what you've done get loads of "Dealer" and "Exchange and mart" prices and never except first offer.

but the will drag it out it becomes a case how little they can pay you and how long will you fight to get more before desperate to have the pay-out.

Remember to get your Plate off the car quickly while MOT'd, insurance and V5 documents are still all in your name it's much easier to do NOW

You'll only get about if there first offer was £8K and average £10K best you'll ever get is £9K mods normall coun't diddly squit so put back to standard what ever you can IMHO

As I stated in my post above, if you go to the Subaru UK website and then go to their 'used car search' you can search for every 02 WRX for sale at a dealer in the UK. You can even specify mileage, colour etc. This will give you what you are looking for.

I bought a silver 02 WRX Wagon from a Subaru dealer about 4 months ago, about 48k on the clock and in perfect condition. This comes with a years warranty and home assist, I paid £8k, so the offer of £7k is not far off unfortunately. See if you can get them up to £7.5 though.

Here's one on pistonheads, with more miles at £7.5k - guess you could get this down to £7k though.

I used to work in motor insurance claims.

To subtantiate your figures to your insurers, provide them with copies of adverts from autotrader & the relevant page from Parkers or a similar guidebook (assuming it helps you). Also provide a copy of the Tileys quote.

I would think you'll be doing well to get £10k, I'm afraid.

Cheers - not aiming for £10k but know that the car was worth more than £7k so any improvement is my aim

Also... whatever figure I prove they will be deducting 24.5% (e.g even valued at £10k this would mean £7,550 - £500 excess = £7,050)

Parkers:-

Subaru Impreza Saloon 2.0 WRX 4WD 4d Valuation - Parker's (if the URL translates) suggests the very best price for an 02 WRX is £8K, sounds like your stealer is pricey!

the thing is they have not offered me £7k payout - they are working on £7k and taking away 24.5% salvage plus my excess of £500 which hopefully my solicitor will claim back for me eventually meaning only around £4,800 payout :-(

Parkers does not take into account extras and mileage unless you pay for a valuation - Autotrader reckons trade = £10,065

Remember to get your Private Plate off the car quickly BEFORE you hand in the V5 to the insurance

Easiest way is while it is MOT'd, insurance and V5 documents are still all in your name

It can be done after it but it becomes awkwards

I didn't realise - just read your other post which explains it. Good luck on getting it sorted out.

I would say if you can get 8k you have done really well. You can get an UK WRX 05 plate for 10k.

How was 24.5% arrived at ? Say to them you expect them to base their salvage deduction on actual offers from their list of salvage dealers. 24.5% sounds pretty steep.
