Having tried most of the octane boosters on the market I have settled on NF from Roger Clark Motorsport in a case of 30 bottles a time.
I cannot say I have noticed any change in quality or performance.
CVL performs just as well but is excessively expensive as it is about £6.50 or £7.00 a bottle and that only does 20litres of petrol.

NF!
Roger Clark Motorsport - RCM Product Detail

3ml per litre max. So half a bottle per tank.

Get mine from Roger Clark. The more you buy, the cheaper it gets.

The group buy is 10x NF for £120.44 DELIVERED..! Which I think you'll find is a very good price. Would work out about £11 a bottle if you removed p&p..

I've recently bought x20 Millers octane plus from Alyn @ ASP for £70 inc delivery, so worth giving him a call on that..

I've used both and, IMHO, not much in it really. NF seems to be mappers favorite, but millers is slightly cheaper and easier to use (1 bottle per tank/50 ltrs) so no measuring required. Both are better than the other crap on the market and do actually give some benefits.

NF does seem to produce more pops from exhaust, which is why I've just bought a batch..

Millars CVL and NF perform similarly as outlined above adding 1 octane per ml for NF per litre of petrol and something similar for a bottle of CVL in 20 litres of petrol.
Millars Octane Plus adds only 2 or 3 tenths of an octane per bottle per 50 litre tank of petrol.
If the car is mapped close to the edge on NF or CVL and you then try a tank on Octane Plus you will run into serious DET and your knock link if you have one will light up like a Christmas tree.

Octane plus actually adds 2 ron to 50ltrs, which is the same as adding 100ml of NF (ie making 95 to 97 and 97 to 99 etc...)..

so if you add this to an already mapped car will it make a difference or does it have to be mapped in to make a real noticable difference.?

It will take a few tanks for the car to be happy with it i believe. For example if you run 95 petrol in the car it will retard the ignition pretty quickly to protect the engine however it will take a while to 'trust' good quality fuel again and get back to standard. Essentially a safety thing from your ECU as it learns the quality of the fuel on board.

It's more of a safety thing if added and not mapped. ie. RR day, track. The gains are not as much. My car did feel smoother, but that could've been the placebo effect.

It is mapped in now.

ECU would still take time to 'learn' the higher octane i believe. Might start seeing benefits on the second tank... others may know different. Mapping would make the best of it immediately of course.

Jasonius : Using the figures from the Millars link you have kindly posted, the difference between Optimax (WAS 98.3) and Optimax with Octane Plus (99.4) is 1.1 Ron. IF that information is accurate, it means that Octane Plus has been enhanced very recently because the last bottle I saw increased RON by about one third of a RON according to the packaging on the bottle.
1ml per litre NF increases RON by 1 full unit ie 10 points.

Millers CVL is not meant to be used regularly with catalytic converters (it's a lead replacement additive and not just an octane booster). Millers Octane Plus is the Millers product you should be using in Imprezas

Sorry, to add ... I bought 20 bottles of Octane plus recently and the best price I found was at Frost

Millers Octane Plus (250ml) (Z320) - Frost Auto Restoration Techniques (see link for x10 at bottom of page)

£35 for 10 bottles. With free delivery if you spend over £60 (ie, buy 20 bottles)

That's a good price £70 for x20 delivered..

Harvey, they changed the label about 2yrs ago iirc, although as far as Im aware it's always claimed +2ron/bottle/50ltrs..?

My car was mapped with millers/vpower and the KL lets me know if I don't put it in..!

2ml/ltr or 100ml/50ltr (NF/fuel) gives a 2 point RON increase (ie v-power@ 99 to 101). Any more is a waste..

BTW 1 bottle is 300ml, so 1/3rd bottle per tankful is about right.

Now measuring 100ml and getting it into the tank (before petrol) is another question..

Jasonius :
Harvey, they changed the label about 2yrs ago iirc, although as far as Im aware it's always claimed +2ron/bottle/50ltrs..?
Thanks for the good information mate. I used to use this stuff before NF and at that time the writing on the bottle clearly stated that it raised the octane by 3 points ie. .3 of a Ron.
As a result of this thread I bought 2 bottles of Millers Octane Plus at lunchtime and the labelling is now different and if I have ready it correctly, one bottle in 50 litres of petrol will raise the Ron "by up to 2 Ron".

Each bottle cost £4.99 so on this occasion it will actually work out more expensive than NF which I buy 30 bottles at a time.

When my tank is nearly empty I will try out a bottle of Millers and report back my findings which will be based on Knock Link activity but it will be a few weeks before I will have the opportunity to do this but I will mark this thread.

2ml/ltr or 100ml/50ltr (NF/fuel) gives a 2 point RON increase (ie v-power@ 99 to 101). Any more is a waste..
You have to be very careful with your terminology or it will cause confusion.
"a 2 point Ron increase" This is .2 Ron when I think you mean a 2 Ron increase so I would suggest you are careful to avoid confusion.

When Millers originally sold Octane Plus I think it was as much an upper cylinder lubricant and perhaps lead additive as it was an Octane Booster and they played on words but told no lies. First impression was you were adding 3 Ron but when you read it carefully and had scanned technical papers and internet technical sites dealing with Ron and Mon it was then evident that the increase was indeed 1/10th of what originally appeared to be the case.
