I belief it was based on the Subaru Impreza STi Electra One Concept which was introduced in 1999.

Ugly indeed! After further thought- is it a homolagation for a road racing series?

Does anyone know its origin? Its a pity the STi site isn't in English as well as Japanese!

It's based on the WRX typeRA STi Version 6, limited run of 300.
300 bhp and 260 lbs ft, 174 mph!!!
