To modify or not?

I'm all for making changes to your car if you wish personalise it
but when people buy a special edition such as the UK300 and make serious changes to it, I can't see the point.
Why not buy a standard one and give it the full monty.
Surely a special edition in standard form would be worth more in future years.

Its possible that a special edition is a better starting point.
Some people dont give a toss about value and care more for enjoying modding.
It is always possible to return the car to standard.

I think it would be daft to buy a special edition and then change the things about it that made it special in the first place. So I wouldn't, for example, buy a UK300 and change the wheels and spoiler, but I wouldn't think twice about modifying the engine just because it was a limited edition.
