Question

Nowt wrong with those, but Philips also do some 80% uprated ones, and Halfords do the 50% uprated ones in a gold-coloured box at BOGOF, made by GE they are also very good.

Just out of interest, WHY are the HID's going?

The phillips ones are very good, but to be honest I find the Ring 'red' (claimed 50% brighter than normal) bulbs just as good and half the normal shop price....or about the same as that auction price!

Yeah, OK!!

You're all going to laugh at me, but, Poundland have a pack with a pair of decent H4 Bulbs in ....... that's 50p each!! Mine are still going strong after 8 years, so these 50p jobs will see me well into the 16th year

Those prices above are for those who don't care what they pay ...

If they're any good then well done Pete, but the headlights in our Octavia were woeful with ordinary bulbs due to the projector headlight design. I think they are really designed for HID's, and by being so bad when fitted with halogen bulbs they make more 'HID upgrade' sales I fitted the Philips Extremes and they are significantly better. I also put some in my Fabia, which TBH didn't need it as they are probably the best headlights in any car I've driven, but again there was an improvement. I agree that if your lights are OK anyway then why waste money, but some cars need a little extra help, Classic Scoobs are infamous for poor headlights, as were VW Corrado's (which needed new looms to make decent improvements) and IME Octavia II's.

Matteus, I clicked on the link from Slipstream and got on to Powerbulbs. Ordered a pair of Philips Extreme +80% which were £24 something. You also get a pair of "free" 5W sidelight bulbs. I got three e-mail confirmations almost by return.
I am looking forward to trying them out and will try to compare them with the uprated bulbs I already have.

Noticed in the PoundShop yesterday that they had a 'Bulb Pack' which included 1 H4 Bulb, Fuses and about 5 other bulbs (like tail lights and indicator, interior too).

If anyone is interested - this would be good simply for Continental Travel wouldn't it?

I tried the Philips +50 Dipped and philips extreme Main.

They were awesome. I then decided for the Philips Rallye (100w) for main.

I have lost the distance of the Xtreme, but it give a broader, brighter, closer beam.

I will go back to Xtremes (+30). I prefer to see further into the distance, rather than shorter and brighter. Especially as warp speed is readily available.

Philips +80 are not available yet for H1.

If you wanted to stay with HIDs:

1. Return the kit from whoever you purchased it from and try one of ours.

2. If they won't take the kit back - try our ballasts out.

If it doesn't resolve the problem, return the kit for a refund. I'm quite confident it would work though. PM me if you wish to go ahead

The bulbs ordered Sunday night were here Tuesday but I was out and when I went to the sorting office to collect they were "missing"
As requested I wated until 1.30pm Wednesday and when they did not turn up contacted the sorting office who do not seem to like answering phones. When I went down there was a bad attitude and I went ape **** and told them to get the head postmaster down to reception NOW. After I told them I was going nowhere until the head honcho was brought to see me the missing package appeared as if by magic!!!

Tried them out on some dark country lanes last night but they are a little bit of a disappointment. I had driven the route with my GE General Electric +60% & then fitted the Philips Extreme and they did not seam as good as the GE Megalife + 60%.
When time permits I will do a proper back to back test with the car static on a bit of the lane where I can look at the light produced and range of each section lit up so that I have a much more accurate feed back and I will post on here.

Hmmmm, interesting. Not the bit about the PO, that doesn't surprise me one bit.

The GE Megalights ARE a class act, 60% brighter, optically VERY accurate so will outperform most stuff.

Add to that, the Philips bulbs are 80% uprated, so you have GE at 60W with 90W "output", and the Philips at 60W with 108W "output".

18W more would be hard to spot, really.....
